Can someone please help me, I have been playing Mass Effect (the first one) and somehow fucked up my save file, now I have to start all over again so I decided to play with cheats, but no matter what, I can't get the console up, no freakin' way, edited every input file there is and still nothing. I have both DLCs and the newest patch. Does someone know what's causing this?

Well, tbh, forget cheats. If you really want to.. check out gamefaqs.com or something like that. It shows you how to make the console come up etc..
However, if you want a better, less time-costing option- http://www.masseffectsaves.com/
Just download the perfect Mass Effect save so you can enjoy ME2

You have incorrectly edited the files. You edited the files but did not save the changes or tried to save with files in read-only mode. You have failed to press the proper keys for console to come up. Depending on OS language and keyboard, special buttons like Tilde may be at different places. Change the console key for something you can't miss, like the key P or so on.

For some reason, on some games, the console window does not show up for me, despite it being open. The only signal may be that suddenly keyboard commands do not move the character, open inventory etc. In this case, the codes and commands usually still work as long as you input them correctly. You may be suffering from the 'invisible console' syndrome as well, but I'm not sure as I never used cheats in Mass Effect.

If these don't work and you are set on cheating still, try various trainers. Beware of viruses and trojans however.

Mapping to something else worked, thanks!

You're welcome. This is a problem I often run into, with a Nordic keyboard. I have so far found four different combinations of buttons that act as Tilde key, and the proper combination seems to change from game to game.
