Mass Effect Crashing

So I picked up Mass effect on the steam christmas sale, and for the first 10-15 hours, I have thouroughtly enjoyed it. However, when I was playing the mission on Virmire, I would get partway throught the mission, then the game would crash. I reloaded a save and tried again, with the same result. I restarted the mission, and got to the same point, only for it to crash again. I don't really know what to do about this, and was wondering, is there a patch for this? any advice is appreciated.

Validate the game contents in Steam.
Right click on the game in Stem -> Properties -> look for "Verify" button and use it.
If this won't help, try to re-download it and reinstall.
