Either a really ballsy move, or a really stupid move. I hope they understand that everybody who played the game chose a DIFFERENT shephard. How can they possibly please everyone here? .. how can they possibly please ANYONE here? No matter what they do .. the shephard that I chose is going to be better than the one they are going to show. They cant even show Femshep.

This is something that 'can' be done right .. but would be incredibly hard to pull off. Given that much simpler game->movie adaptations have been botched .. I don't see how this stands a chance.

Mass effect was already so cinematic, why bother? The only way this could be a worse idea is if it was a heavy rain movie

It will probably be terrible, but, if they're going to do it, then I personally think that it shouldn't follow Shepard or the plot of the games. Firstly, we've already played the games, so changing anything is just going to piss fans off, and, secondly, we all have our own Shepard, so making Paragon/Renegade Shepard canon is going to annoy people who chose the other path.

If they're going to do a movie, it should either follow squad mates from the game and serve as a bridging sequel, or it should be like the books, where they follow completely different characters and just expand on the universe and other areas of conflict/interest in the galaxy. There are loads of other people in the galaxy with interesting stories to be told, apart from just Shepard & Co.
perhaps it should be about the discovery of the prothean ruin on mars and the events leading up to (or about) the first contact war with the turians.

it could be interesting to see the illusive man and company before the war, just saying

I still think Casper Van Dien would make a perfect Commander Shepherd
I see what you did there...

At least they're consulting with the creators on this. I don't agree with their choice of story, but hey, I'm not the boss of a film studio. Surely Hudson made the options available to them and they decided that ME1 was the best story to adapt to film.
