I don't think Mass Effect multiplayer would be good as part of Mass Effect 3. Maybe if it were it's own game, like a Mass Effect Battlefront sort of thing, you could have it be based around the first contact war, or maybe a new storyline, a big battle that would involve all the races, allowing them to be playable.

Or have Mass Effect 3 allow friends to control party members, if you do it online you could have an online party member be someone else on their friends screen, but on their screen they show up as Shepard. I don't know, it could work.

So, Co-op could be good, Halo style multiplayer, not so much.

I don't want multiplayer in Mass Effect at all.

I'm getting really fed with the way every good game nowadays has to have multi tacked on to it.

Mass Effect is all about the story and characters, and both will suffer if Bioware dedicate development time to some shitty multiplayer mode. Please, Bioware... keep it single player.

Well it was announced a while ago that its going to happen so we might as well embrace it.
You're mistaken there, nothing of the sort of "announced."

Bioware just put up a job posting for a multiplayer programmer that states they want to "take existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe". This does not mean they're refering to mass effect. Looks more to me like Dragon Age might be getting multiplayer.

So in conclusion, Mass Effect 3 was never announced as having multiplayer, so I'd suggest not worrying about it.

I think just some standards over the shoulder shooter would be fine. Imagine a CTF game. Engeneer uses a drone to guard the flag and detect stealth, a infiltrator class tries to sneak in drone discovers him, vanguard charges out of cover stunning the infiltrator and shotgunning him to death. A soldier charges across the battlefield grabs the flag and uses adrenaline burst to sprint away, an adept cast barrier to protect him, and all the while mini battles are going on all over the place with heavy weapons drops in the map.

I personally think it would be a blast.. with a kind of group style of play, with adepts being support(healers of shields), engineers being defenses/trickery, infiltrators stealth/sniping, with vanguards, soldiers, being the typical universal role. Think tf2 with ME classes.

not every game needs to have a mode where players can beat the tar out of each other.
I cant even look at you
Whether or not you can look at me is irrelevant, my point still stands true. Some games work well with multiplayer, other games don't need it and stand by themselves. Multiplayer should add to the experience, not detract from it. IMO, it wouldn't work well within ME games as they are now. Someone else mentioned making a new game based on multiplayer that, while it exists in the ME universe, has little or nothing to do with the storyline of the original games.

Basically, this ^

I can see a Mass Effect MMO, since ME is such a story-central game. It could work, the way I'm visioning it.

Well this is the first I've heard of it. So in all respect I can't form a informed opinion until I learn alittle more but I do have questions.

Will it be Class based, with choices of what race at the begining or are you picking a side and you haft to stick with it (like MAG on PS3)?

Will the custom weapon thing like the Absurd amount of upgrades return from Mass Effect 1 to "create a class"?

I keep hearing about The First Contact War; I would love to see some gameplay about that.

no multiplayer at all too many games are focusing on multiplayer and that detracts from their single player mass effect should stay single player

Multiplayer in a canon ME trilogy game, IMO, would be a mistake. There's no way they could just tack on some co-op (much less a deathmatch of sorts) without it feeling just that - tacked-on. I hope Bioware spends every last ounce of their resources on a kick-ass, compelling end to the Commander Shepard storyline in the same excellent (and single player) way as the first two.

If they want to go the Halo route and add more games to the mix - multiple prequels, an RTS, maybe an MMO - and then add a whole mess of multiplayer, then hell yes I'm all for that. In fact, I think they should, and I'd buy every one of those games. But please, for the trilogy, don't screw with the proven formula. Please.

Mass Effect 1 tried a horde type DLC... It was kinda crap. Why does Mass Effect need multiplayer? So people can play it once and then never touch it again except for like 10 people because oh wait MW2, Halo, Battlefield, Gears of War these games have actual polished multiplayer because the intention for them is multiplayer.

Bioshock is a perfect example, they tried multiplayer, it's ok, not great and of course the community playing it - last time I was on - is pretty small because oh of course there are games actually made for multiplayer - not just a tacked on afterthought for a selling point - which are better! ME needs no multiplayer and should have no multiplayer.

Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
Mass Effect doesn't need, nor has it ever needed a multiplayer feature.
Especially not Co-Op. Co-op features tend to be killing some of the games they're in lately (RE5, anyone?) and none of it is really needed for ME as is, it's a blazing success with its story driven single-player, and in essence it's BioWare doing what it does best, Telling an epic story. That said, they could fix the inventory for more items >_>

Wouldn't multiplayer take Mass Effect's weakest element (the TPS-element, to be exact) and built a game around it. It just seems stupid with a game so focused on story and character-interaction.
Besides, it didn't work for Bioshock 2, why would it work for ME3.

Mass Effect multiplayer should NOT BE STORY INVOLVED. The Story of Mass Effect is that of Commander Sheppard and just Commander Sheppard.

If we are to have a multiplayer then add it as an option with things like the "Spec Ops" from Modern Warfare 2 or a Hoard Mode like in the Mass Effect 1 DLC Pinnacle Station (though weak, it was quite fun). Also, give us a reason to play the multiplayer. Allow us to unlock weapons, get money and gain experience when playing it, and don't put achievements into it. That might ruin it for me.

And because I don't want a low content wrist slap I will allow miracle to make my point for me before me! ;-) Basically this says all I would have said about multiplayer. I would also have mentioned possible game delay because of dev time, and wasting disc space that could be used for, you know, the actual game. But that's just my opinion.
