I feel that Mass Effect 3 had the potential to be truly epic and set a new bar of achievement for RPGs and games in general.
So what went wrong in your opinion and ME 3 didn't quite live up to the expectations?
I'll be honest first, I have no idea. I am completely in awe of how far off the mark this title hit. There is more wrong with it than the ending but it seems like the internet is deciding that is the most important dead horse to beat to a puddle. That interview is only 2 months old, the game was finished at that point in time. Bioware knew the ending was
in fact A, B, and C at the time of the interview. This lends credit to the claim that they "ripped out" the other endings as DLC later due to a leak.
Personally, I think money happened. I hate to say it like this as I know how it sounds but essentially, "EA happened". If I had to venture my guess based on everything I see going on, it was simply maximizing profits on a highly anticipated sequel even by reducing production value.
I do actually think it may have been able to set that bar I mentioned without actually doing it, itself though. Like it threw it out there on the table but didn't claim it for itself. I think ME3 did live up to some people's expectations but only to those who had very low or no expectations.
