Of course it depends on how well ported it is. There are games out there in which the tutorial shows an xbox 360 controller on the pc version and so on. If you look at the reviews (see metacritic), you see that reviews in general thinks that it is ported and made better on the pc.

I love people who post posts containing only the words "xbox 360", or "PC". Anyway, since they say you should have no problem with it on the pc, go for it. Maybe then you will have lower loadingtimes and less texture popups.
Thanks, but oddly enough metacritic gives the PC version a slightly lower version. Might that be because the xbox version still had that shock effect, wich was slightly lost at the PC version.

Reading through the thread, it's pretty clear that the PC version is your best bet, ESPECIALLY in your situation. You can crack that DRM or get it on steam too if you want (I suggest retail, M.E. is a big game).

It's a "port" of a good game, and the PC handles it well, but there's also different UI and such for the PC that makes things like combat and mako handling smoother. You also pass the specs with flying awesome. Don't worry, the PC version is made for the PC.

Id say the PC, It will probly look better, and it has way better handling of your inventory.

and honestly, DRM isnt my concern, my only complaint would be that you cant register the store version in steam.

Just something to keep in mind - you can get the expansion for free with the PC version as well.

Not neccesarily. Remember that many reviewers have only reviewed the pc or xbox version, and the "official xbox magazine", that is especially kind with scores, and so on. But yeah, the pc version did come out a while after the 360 version after all.

I'm biased for the PC, since I don't own any consoles. I had tons of pleasure on it with ME though. Your PC is slightly less in spec than mine, and mine runs it perfectly so you shouldn't have much of a problem in that aspect. I'd say go for it!

Considering your situation I'd say go for the PC version. Free expansion, DRM no longer an issue, extremely good port, improved inventory and improved graphics. Whats to lose? "Console feel"? give me a break. People who say this game is meant for the console are only spouting their personal beliefs not actual fact.

Honestly xbox here. Only one reason, all my saves are on it.
You all can rant and debate, but the fact remains people are going to play it on the system they played the first one on. That point basically leaves everything else moot.

But for the guy who started this wonderful topic. I can't remember the name of the wire but it lets me hook up my xbox sound and visual cords ((the ones with the yellow, white, red things)) up to a box which hooks up to my HD monitor. I know I know I'm not the most techical guy around, sorry.

Edit: to Kstreitenfeld, same can be said for your belief that it's not. :p

I think you misunderstand the OP, hes asking about the original Mass Effect, not the new one.

Yeah that why I edited my post...twice. I just assumed it was about mass effect 2, because well. The first one was released awhile ago.

All I said were the benefits of the PC version over the xbox version. Free expansion, DRM no longer an issue, extremely good port, improved inventory and improved graphics are not "personal opinion".

Thats a belief if I ever saw one, and improved graphics if you only have a better gameing rig then the 360 is. I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to gameing system *shurg*. I will admit the free stuff and improved inventory are a bonus. I don't see how it being a good port is a point in it's favor. Wouldn't that just make it as good as the xbox version?

When I say its a good port I mean the game actually makes use of a PCs controls. Its just not some bland console game thrown onto the PC, it really does use the PC to its potential. I also never said the xbox version was bad. In fact I own Mass Effect for the Xbox myself. Bought it the first day it came out, although I do admit that if it was also released for the PC I would of bought it for PC instead but that aside I still throughly enjoyed it on the Xbox, but as I said in my first post according to the situation the OP is in I recommend the PC version for him. Considering his computer is more then powerful enough for the game and the fact that he has a nice computer screen to go with it vs a bad tv for his xbox (not his own words but you get the idea).

Yeah I get it, really just trying to understand how the port makes a point though. Like I said, I'm not really a techical person. So I couldn't tell if his rig was good enough, but if it is. It's up to him, and god speed...to the alien sex scene! :p

Now I've got one question about it: how does the fact that it's a true console game *ahem* manifest itself? How do you notice, when you're playing the PC version, that it's really a game made for the console, apperantly.
It's hard to explain. The game was made for a console so it just has a "console feel" to it. Evereything looks like it was made for a console in the game (well besides the new inventory system). And the inventory system in the Xbox 360 is not anywere near as bad as some people here have claimed, i have for one have had no problem with it. Also the game just does not feel right on a PC because allot of the weapons just don't feel right when your using a mouse and a keyboard instead of a controller. Also another important thing to take notice of is that the game is a huge cinematic experiance and playing it on a good TV would easily be allot better and give you a much more epic feel then you would if you were playing it on a PC on your desk, so that needs to bee kept in mind. Sound is imortant as well, and again it feels allot more epic if your playing on a good TV with at least decent speakers (and if you have good or great speakers then all the better).

Also the PC version of the game takes like 12 GB of your hard drive space and that is never a good thing. The game takes a long time to install as well.
Pretty understandable. The problem is indeed, like the poster above me pointed out, my tv is kinda meeh in both sound and screen quality. I think a cinematic experience is better. Plus I get a pain in my back and neck pretty quickly from the chair I need to play in, if I want to play on my 360. So I guess that a cinematic experience like you describe it would actually feel better on my pc, in my case ofcourse. I just ordered it for the pc, hopefully it'll arive tommorow ;-)

Well, I love the PC over consoles so it was never any contest for me. And yeah, the PC version works just fine. Occasionally i get crashing in dialogue, but that's been it for issues, and it looks fantastic.

The main pro for the xbox though, which hasn't been mentioned, is that if you're interested in playing mass effect 2 it's likely to come out for the xbox way before pc, unless there's been an announcement to the contrary. And you want to be able to take your saves from number 1 to number 2.

From reading this I would just assume you are really use to the 360 version (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm only assuming) because the controls are great and so are the weapons and fuck me if I ever try to use a sniper rifle with the 360 controller, and not to mention the ease of use with being able to command your team-mates individually and the combat UI in general being tweaked and tailored for the P.C. despite it's 'console feel'. Then of course there's the whole "you can use a controller and you can plug it into a T.V. if you want" argument, and I played the game on a T.V. with my P.C. but of course I'm a minority. TC does have a 360 though, so that means he has a controller he can use.

If I wanted Mass Effect I would want the PC version and I would get it of Steam.

The steam version is just steam and not the limited install DRM of the retail version.
