I have been wanting to get the mass effect series for a little while now, but I have problem. The problem is deciding what platform should I get it on.

With the pc version i'd either have to get ME 1 & 2 on steam and ME 3 on Origin or All three on Orign a download platform i would rather not have on my pc for the sake of one game or one game series only. Also there may be the issue of the game costing more since Origin is not as good as steam when it comes to sales and price drops due to games aging.

With The PS3 version i would have all three game for on price and i would not have to deal with the Origin, but I would be cut off from mods for the series.

So are the mods for the pc worth the hassle of getting Origin or should I just get the PS3 version.

Note: I don't care about multiplayer nor do i want to hear how the ending of 3 burned your village, pillaged your fields, and enslaved your family. I just want to know if the the pc mods are worth the hassle or not.

There are hardly any worthwhile mods and such, unless you want some save editors and higher res textures.
Prices on Origin shouldn't be an issue because on Amazon the games are all [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Mass-Effect-Xbox-360/dp/B000F6Y5IM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1368406487&sr=8-2&keywords=mass+effect] really [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mass-Effect-2-PC-DVD/dp/B001RIYMIA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1368406482&sr=8-3&keywords=mass+effect+2] cheap. Unless for some reason you don't like physical copies but even then Origin isn't too expensive and really it's not a bad program, just another thing to launch.

Also personal preference here, but having played all 3 on PC and 1+2/ demo for 3 on 360, PC controls are so much better so that'd be enough for me to get it on PC.

Ty hazabaza it was really only missing out on possibly good mods that was the tipping point for me on this decision. So i opt to get ps3 version now. Although i hear you on the controls for pc vs console controls but im sure its not terribly decisive.

Personally i prefer the controls on PC but thats up to you.
Better graphics on pc are always a plus.

But you don't NEED to buy it off origin. If you can get in from a local store (probably much cheaper than with origin, it is how i saved bout 20/30 bucks on BF3 + all expansions) you only gotta activate it on origin.

Who knows, maybe such a deal is cheaper for PC than for PS3, you would have to check that out.

The greatest benefit I can think of for getting it on PC is that there are web sites in which you can download other people's previous saves to give you a custom jumping-off point for the series. Basically, your data and choices can be transferred from game to game. If you load an old save file from ME1 into ME2, it'll preserve the choices you made (such as which characters you chose to sacrifice, characters you chose to romance, that sort of thing) and it'll affect how the story continues to play out. If you don't do this, then default selections will be made for you, and quite frankly it sucks.

So, loading saves that aren't yours is like a shortcut to certain story beats without having to replay an entire game just to make new choices. You just search for the choices you want, and bam. You're set.

As far as controls and mods, I can't speak for those. But I do love being able to load other ME saves.
