Do you think the technologies in mass effect (omni tools, biotics, FTL drive, ect) can be viable in the future? BE ADVISED: for those of you who want to call me a retard GET OFF THIS THREAD! CAUTION: DON'T TAKE THREAD TOO SERIOUSLY.

Its possible, but it wouldnt happen. Aside from Biotics, the rest are kinda pointless. There'd be other things to do the same task in more proficient or effective ways. Biotic, or physiological modification is perfectly possible, and semi-synthetic humans is very likely.
All Mass Effect lacks is a sense of how tools would actually be used - For example, instead of an omnitool, you could have a cranial implant and call it a biotic enhancement.

I believe ive spent way too long thinking about this...
Also, interspecial 'relations...' for great justice!

Maybe, the possibilities are endless, but Im more interested in the whole inter-species sex thing...
mmmm tali

Also: who knows? No one thought air travel, landing on the moon, portable telephones, and lady gaga were possible either, but it all happened. That biotics stuff though, thats just silliness.

FTL is something I pray for every day.

it'd be nice but i think it'll be a long long long time before it happens if humanity is still around. now that the serious stuff is done I'd like the biotics being able to pick up or blast stuff away sounds like fun

Biotics are very possible, and biotechnology is going to be a lot more prominent in the future, just not the the level of Mass Effect. I personally believe that FTL travel is possible via wormholes, but we're still a long ways away from that. As far as the omni-tool, wearable computing is also an emerging technology that we're likely to see more of in the coming decades, but again, not anything quite like in Mass Effect.

Mass Effect technology is based on Element Zero, so if we find an element that can change the mass of things then yes.

There are other ways to work around not having element zero, like wormholes, but not in 150 some years, unless of course we discover an element or ancient technology that we can use.

The haptic adaptive user interface that's the fundemental tech behind Mass Effect interfaces is theoretically possible if you can get a good hologram projector and a series of 3D coordinates relaying between the computer and the sensors in someone's gloves, but it'd be a really awkward thing to actually try and use. The idea is that force-feedback kind of fakes the sense of something resisting your touch, but it's just vibration, not actual physical resistance like you'd get with a keyboard. The fact is that you're still typing on air, and I don't think that's gonna work out too well. You'd be better off using your own skin.

Oh wait.
