GameTrailers has a new exsclusive trailer for Mass Effect 2 up, and i've gleaned a few things from the premier.

1. Shepard is not dead. It shows you playing as him, using some of the new weapons. His freinds however are not aware of this at first, as Liara says to him shocked, "Shepard? But...your dead".

2. Shepard is looking for an A-Team for a "dangerous mission" with "chances of survival...slim".

3. Tali returns, you can see what is unmistakibly her (failing that, another female quarian) at 55 secs if you pause the video. Also pictured with Shepard is what seems to be an African American human.

4. We get a brief glimpse of one of the new alien races snapping some dudes neck Solid Snake style.

You don't SEE Tali's face in the trailer, her appearance is masked by the purple facemask. Which obscures her skin color in the original game anyway. Neither does she talk in the trailer.

And that is definatly Liara's voice, so thats Liara or they got lazy with VA's.

My decisions in Mass Effect 1 were said to affect Mass Effect 2, so I'm expecting him, and Garrus.

Best team ever, I know.

My decisions in the first game damn well better carry over (who's on the council, who is dead, etc.), that'll be pretty terrible if they just started a new storyline as if you went 100% paragon or something like that...

And yes, Wrex + Garrus = best team evar.

Considering Liara's face looks older and more hardened a significant amount of time could have passed, meaning something could have happened to the Krogans depending on your decision? Saren has a lab that you assault later in the game where they're trying to fix the mutation to the Krogans that keeps them from mating (remember they already have dwindling numbers). Remember the conversation you have to calm Wrex down or kill him? That decision. My recollection is fuzzy but I distinctly remember that being Wrex's beef.

just because saren's plan doesn't come to fruition doesn't mean the krogan race is extinct.. they just can't breed efficiently enough to populate a home planet

This may be a dumb question... but everyone always acts surprised when they see Shepard alive... did he die in the first one? In the game I played he lived and came crawling up over a rock after the rescue team came.

What I'm proposing to you is that a long time may have passed somehow (Shepard may or may not be the original, maybe a clone, maybe a time paradox Shepard) evidenced by the fact that Liara seems quite a bit older, as if she had moved into the next phase of her life cycle. There are no other familiar characters in the trailer, technology seems to have wildly advanced and the Geth in the Pre-E3 trailer look MUCH more advanced. Yes, it's a radical theory but they have been putting out some over-the-top craziness in their trailers and I wouldn't put it past them to pull something like that on us.

Now, if my theory were true and Saren's plan failed (which it did), a hundred years into the future the Krogans could possibly be extinct! Or the lack of Krogans could just be that the main Krogan character may or may not be dead depending on your experience in the first game. Still, I think Bioware is gonna pull something crazy storywise.

Yeah, I think Wrex was pissed because you would have to destroy the cure to the genophage; you don't get to choose to save it and even if you don't that doesn't mean it kills the Krogan off, it just doesn't help.

But that mission pissed me off because I really wanted them to give me the option to save the cure instead of destroying it. But, I'll have to wait for a future game for that.

Ah yes, now I remember. I remember the first time that happened, I was so fuckin' bummed out that I didn't have the charm/intimidation stats to save him. He was my favorite companion.

I really don't think/hope that that's Liara.

As far as Shepherd's death, he probably barely survives a mission at the beginning. I suppose he could survive and essentially get sent into the future if he gets locked in a sleeper pod that gets ejected from the Normandy.

Gameplay wise, it looks like the combat system returns with a few updates. Heavy weapons are here, but would probably be as restricted as the assualt rifles. I'm really looking foreward to tech enhanced armor and weapons (at least I think that's what that is).
