Well, after watching the Subject Zero trailer [http://tgs.gamespot.com/video/6230520/] for Mass Effect 2, I suddenly dug out the first game and gave it a whirl. Having read that certain choices from the first game will carry over into the second one, I tried to pay attention to everything that I thought might affect the next game.

Whether or not you killed the Council
Who you selected to be on the Council
Whether you chose to detonate the bomb or save the Salarians
Who you left behind
Whether you helped the Salarian with his gambling device
Whether you vowed to support the Terra Firma politico or not
Whether you decided to help the Shadow Broker after the end of the Cerberus sidequests
Whether you chose to kill or persuade Father Kyle
Your actions with the two reporters in the game
Whether you chose to arrest Jax, the mod dealer, or just do the deal
Who you sleep with
How you complete the Bring Down The Sky DLC pack

So, if you played Mass Effect, what other stuff do you think will carry over, how do you think it will affect the game, and so on? I ask that you try and stick things in spoilers so that people who haven't played Mass Effect can also participate in the thread.

If you haven't played Mass Effect, do you think that this narrative system should be employed in more games? That is, should more franchises have storylines that change over the course of the series based on the decisions that the player makes?

well after watching a couple traiers it seems this one is focused heavily around a krogan, who's more agressive than Wrex, essentially ruining the concept. I assume the Normandy will make an appearance

Every choice that you made in Mass Effect 1 will carry over to Mass Effect 2 w/ your savefile. (yes, even the choice to yell at Conrad Verner.)

*SPOILERS* Probably the Rachni, and if you chose to save the council or not.
both of those depend on whether or not you allowed them to exist in ME. it kinda breaks flow if people who you make dead, suddenly aren't a few years later

Yeah, but I really could've sworn I heard somewhere that ME2 would be able to read your save file from the first game...

Probably not, but it still would be awesome.

I just watched the trailer there and that new npc is bat shit crazy.. think im in love :D
I liked Wrex because he WASN'T bat shit crazy among an entire species who was. the reason he left home was because he gave up on his own people, knowing they wouldn't stop fighting long enough to prevent extinction.

By making a krogan that behaves the way everyone thinks krogans do is like having all the white people wear suits and legally take your stuff while all the black people wear baggy clothes and illegally take your stuff. NOT A COMPELLING CHARECTOR

Thats correct. Thats after all pretty much the point of this thread, which parts of your save will affect ME2.

for everyone who has ME, anyone who hasn't would have to wonder if hunting for an extinct game and spending hours getting through it just so they can play the game they actually want to is worth their time.

also, what about files you play through more than once, being good the 1st time and renegade the next? me thinks your source is bad, sir

Probably your reputation from choices you made in the first game? Because your Paragon/Renegade meters are supposed to be important. Remember how you picked Shepard's backstory at the beginning of the first game? It'll probably be like that, only you made your backstory for the second one yourself.

Can you get Wrex to join your party in 2? What happens if you buy two without one?

I have created about 8 different characters, and I have made them make different decisions each, so I can see what carries over! Hopefully EVERYTHING!

I've got to say, I'm actually looking forward the the sequel. Of course in the first trailer, (not the teaser,) it looks like the Normandy is destroyed which would suck given the awesomeness of that ship.

What about the rachni? I assume that will be a huge part in mass effect 2. Well on what you said, let me make a prediction about what will happen.

Whether or not you killed the Council Cant say because the decision was so huge

Who you selected to be on the Council I assume if you picked the chanciler, most worlds will be hostile twords humans because the chanciler is biased and is mabye cutting off supplys or something.

Whether you chose to detonate the bomb or save the Salarians I didnt even know you could save them.

Who you left behind see above

Whether you helped the Salarian with his gambling device When you enter the strip club seen in the trailers, Mabye for helping him, the salarian gives you a huge sum of credits

Whether you vowed to support the Terra Firma politico or not I dont know what this is

Whether you decided to help the Shadow Broker after the end of the Cerberus sidequests A shadow broker agent sends information about certain missions (enemeys, notable loot etc)

Whether you chose to kill or persuade Father Kyle Killing him results in having to fight rouge L2 biotics

Your actions with the two reporters in the game Same reporter. Just saying. Acting positive will give you a karma boost and vice versa

Whether you chose to arrest Jax, the mod dealer, or just do the deal Letting him live allows for more inventory from the vendors and killing him may make random smugglers attack you in citys.

Who you sleep with Too many possibilitys because one can die.

How you complete the Bring Down The Sky DLC pack didnt buy it

A I the only one who is SUPER pissed the devs revealed one of the endings to the game!? Who does that?

Not exactly relating to the topic of discussion, but seeing that at 0:12 in that video, we see what I will take to be the new character select screen for the missions, there are ten slots in total. Going on the basis that the two people we see with Shepard during Thane's introduction are also part of you sqaud, that would leave six free slots.

What scope do you there is for some of those slots being filled with some of our old friends from ME1? I'm sure I saw an ME2 screenshot with Tali and Grunt so there maybe hope for some of the previous games characters returning. Though perhaps the return of Tali for the second game would depend on:

Whether you helped her out with Pilgrimage or not, which would of course dictate whether or not she is able to return to flotilla.

Oh, and yeh, Subject Zero looks insane. I'm guessing she didn't have the easiest childhood...

There's a video on the Mass Effect site, (the one left of the one about the Krogan,) that explains a lot.

Pretty exciting stuff I reckon, it looks like it's going to be epic.

And some of us never knew we could grab Wrex into our party.
... i have a game file, where i killed Wrex and Ashey and treated that blue alien chick like trash.{did her mission last and blew her mind during the debrief} ... I"m just wondering how that will translate.... honestly I wounldn't mind having more characters killed off as long as it isn't that weird nomadic race of cyborqs.

Actually, some of the game developers just confirmed that you CAN transfer save data from ME1 to ME2, if you so choose to. So certain characters won't be there, certain options will manifest, etc.

Well, if anything carries over I may have to play through the original about 8 times, with each record saved to carry over to the next game. Its a great way to improve the replay-ability of the game, especially if the game is significantly different based on your original choices. Let me tell you though, If I can't start a love triangle between me, Garrus and Wrex I'm going to be disappointed.

I hope that the backstories of each character are put into more depth too. Visiting the flotilla of the Quarians. Visiting the homeworld of the Krogan. Things of that matter. We really only get to see human colonies other than the citadel in the first game.

What do I really hope carries over? Well I'm cool with anything. But I'm mostly curious what happens if you don't have a save file on the first game.
