That one farmer guy from the beginning of Mass Effect 1 was pretty much responsible for saving the whole universe as he was the one who told Shepard about Saren shooting niahlus(or however its spelt) prompting Shepards investagation. Anyone else agree?

A dead specter would have prompted an investigation anyway. The truth would have come out eventually.

Nah, they were already investigating, remember. Wouldn't have been long before somebody went "hey...wait a sec..."

No. I'm sure they would have deduced it eventually.

It would have taken awhile to convince the council as to why and how the specter died..but it doesn't change much considering a full investigation would have been issued anyway and clues about Saren would eventually surface.

Oh and yes, welcome to the rain-forest, Adam!

Probably, because when Sovereign/Saren finally got to use the stuff on Ilos, a few moments more to Shepard's investigation would mean Saren would've been there done that first.

P.S.
As all other things. Take one out and cards go down.

Regardless, Saren was already under suspicion by other parties - and had the farmer not been there to tell Shepard, Garrus or Tali would have no doubt sought Shepard out upon hearing of his investigation of the Eden Prime incident.

He's responsible in that without him, it's possible that Saren and Sovereign would have been successful, however equally you could say that Tali was responsible for saving the galaxy since without her recording, they never would have checked up on Matriach Benezia or Liara, which would mean Shepard would never get the Mu Relay stuff.

And, you know, without Shepard no one would have saved the galaxy to begin with.

It was a team effort, but Shepard lead the effort and that's why she gets the glory. Farmer Guy's contribution was relatively small in comparison.

Yep, that guy saved the universe (although it still hasn't been saved yet), without him Shepard and humanity wouldn't have known of Saren's involvement in the attack. Without this knowlegde humanity/Shepard would have never sought further evidence to convict Saren on the Citadel, which means Shepard would never save Tali or help Garrus. Not saving Tali would result in the only evidence of Saren's involvement being destoryed, allowing him to keep his spectre status and giving him free reign in the universe.

If there was any other evidence it would be pretty useless as Sovereign would have been unstoppable because Shepard's interuptions in it's plans would have never of occured.

Saren never saw Shephard's team though, yet still was on Eden Prime and made a report to the council about it.

When the Normandy got back to the Citadel Anderson or Udina would have found out and made enquiries as to what he was doing there on another Spectre's assignment (much like Nihlus did before Saren slotted him).

The starting point would have been different but the end result would have been the same.

He didn't exactly save the universe, but made it possible for Shepard at al to do so.

Welcome to the Escapist, don't go into the basement. Also, usernames featuring 1337speak aren't very highly regarded around here.

It isn't the universe, it's the galaxy, Milkyway to precise. There is a massive difference. You're right though, he did save the Galaxy in his own way but so did many other characters, As others have said, it's a team effort.
