So earlier I was in the campus bookstore when I noticed this.

Basically, it's a combination lock that instead of turning a dial, you push the button up, down, left or right to make the code.

First thought: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A
Second thought: Holy crap, someone figured out how to put quick time events into real life.

I'm not sure if there's any discussion value, I just thought it was equal parts awesome and horrifying.

Edit: I just realized no one cares about quick time events, the title has been changed.

Somehow that seems real easy to crack.

I mean, its just left, right, up and down now instead of numbers 1-whatever.

[sub]...................I want that.[/sub]

How about we discuss where quick-time events could be functional as a humorous part of life? I'll go first!

Repeatedly tapping "A" would allow you to breath.

Wait.....that's not right!

That's not a quick time event, that's a passcode that uses arrows instead of numbers.

This is nothing new.

I have to mash R1 whenever I want to go into my room.

I have to mash Circle whenever I clean the toilet.

And when Im having sex, I can never see anything. It's like I just press buttons.

It's annoying, alright?

Cash machines are real life QTEs, input the wrong sequence 3 times and you fail until you use your 'continue' at the bank to get your card back.

I often see basketball as a QTE, the ones that say stuff like "Good" and "Perfect" depending on your timing. I guess it's because certain inputs have specific outcomes, like putting the ball through my right leg, there's only so many things I can do when it comes out the other side. I won't have "Press B!" in my head when doing it, but I'm certainly thinking about where the ball is going to go next and how I'm going to do it, and I like to keep track of "chains" so the person can't predict what's going on. Like, through right leg, round back, fake, left leg, crossover, fake, spin, through their legs, and run.

I do however sometimes get a little "Perfect" sound in my head when I know I've timed everything to perfection, and the guys attempt at stealing the ball are always too late.

Upon further contemplation, I must concede the point. It is indeed much less like a QTE than say, an old-school cheat code (hence the addition of the Konami Code in the OP) or a combo in a fighter game. Either way, it makes me feel as if video games have secured a toehold in the real world. And it is awesome.

If I ever join a bomb-squad, I will be severely disappointed if "Press x to not die" is not written on the bomb, as it will mean QTE's will not be a part of our life. Which they should be, since then maybe they wouldn't be in games.

That could go horribly wrong. Example: Press "A" in order to make any of your fingers function.
