Mathematical! Adventure Time is Getting a Full-Length Movie

Chris McKay, of The Lego Movie is set to direct the full-feature Adventure Time movie.

Pendleton Ward's Deadline [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/adventure%20time?os=adventure+time] has learned that the upcoming project is being headed Chris McKay and Roy Lee.

McKay cut his chops on The Lego Movie, where he was an executive producer. He is currently directing The Lego Batman Movie. Ward himself will have some involvement in writing and producing the feature version of his cartoon, though we are not quite sure just how much extensive that involvement will be.

At this point this is pretty much all the information we know. We're not sure if this will be an adaptation of what has already happened in the series, or if it will be an entirely stand-alone story.

Adventure Time started back in 2010, and has had a pretty long and successful run so far. It's spawned plenty of other spin-offs and merch, including a few video games [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135415-New-Adventure-Time-Game-Will-Take-its-Cues-From-Zelda] of... questionable quality. Ward's ability to build such a rich and detailed world despite having only 10-minute episodes is particularly impressive.

What do you guys think of an Adventure Time movie? At this point, I'm cautiously optimistic.

The show certainly as seemed to be building up to SOMETHING. I guess now we'll find out what that something is.

Can't really get an idea of what that might look like until we get a legit trailer... so yeah. Let the waiting and gross amount of cautious theorizing begin.

As long as they nail just that right sort of quiet, contemplative, slightly surreal tone I'll be super happy C:

But as with everything I love being taken out of its well-worn comfort zone, I'm slightly hesitant.

That said, I'd love to see a full length Adventure Time movie. Looking forward to seeing how this shapes up!

That could be interesting, but at the same time, the Mushroom War being this event that's /somewhat/ shrouded in mystery works. Obviously the premise is pretty dark to begin with, but I think actually showing what set it off over a whole movie is a bit of an unnecessary explaination, and might feel a bit off key given the source material, even if Adventure Time is very mature.

I've no idea what an Adventure Time movie could be about, but given how excellent the Lego Movie was (I mean seriously, did anyone see just how fucking good the Lego Movie was coming?), I've got high hopes of Mckay delivering a quality movie.

Seems like I need to catch up on this series. Well, I would if Netflix didn't just have the first two seasons and the DVDs weren't overpriced.

Now where's that Gravity Falls movie?

Now, how soon are we talking about here in terms of release year? 2017? 2018? 2016??
I must know how soon can I buy my movie ticket, glob dammit!

So, I notice that the image that's attached to this article is full of "original character, do not steal's"... Couldn't find a canon group shot?
OT: The show has a rotating cast of directors, so that's a non-issue, it's all going to come down to the script they're working with. I doubt I'll watch it in theaters, but via Netflix or what-have-you down the road? Sure, why not.

Time for some animated insanity on the big screen! This is very interesting, and there's a number of ways they can pull this off. The voice cast is already so good, and I bet they'll nab some high profiles actors to give it that big movie feel. Now, the big question is whether this will be a 2D or 3D animated film.

This doesn't suprise me seeing how big the show has gotten and if MLP:FiM gotten a movie, why not AT?

Still it make me wonder which direction the movie will take (obviously it probably nothing big or change the status quo).

I'm thrilled about the idea of it. Concerned about its execution. They're so skilled at packing full stories into 11 minute segments but what if a 2 hour movie or whatever just doesn't pan out by being too densely packed or simply not good?

I'll sure as hell watch it regardless. Here's to hoping they pull this off in epic fashion because there's few writers I want to succeed more than them.
