I don't worry too much about blood effects, mostly becaus I play Call of Duty (realism) and Painkiller (hyperrealism). And both are done extremely well, namely lots of blood in Painkiller and less blood in CoD.

My favorite kill is in Painkiller, when you wait for one of those ninja guys to jump into the air with their sword and shotgun their head just before they land right in front of you. It's like "Missed me! Hahaha."

Damnit, I was going to mention this. Damn you.

I've never bothered much with gore... that being said I am still annoyed that most games don't have realistic gore in them. Violent death isn't a pretty thing and there is no reason we need to be toning down this fact just to make a few 'morally challenged' people happy. You know, those who are so unsure of their own morality they feel a need to ban everything they can get their hands on just in case it might tempt them to shoot their neighbour.

It isn't as if these people are even going to bother looking at the game before they try to blame all the evils in the world on it in the first place....

I normally leave it as it is, sometimes turn it up to max but not always.

Some of the best executions are in The Punisher game. Putting a man and a live grenade into a coffin is always fun. I had some great times in NYC Zoo with a Rhino and a hapless thug.
The meat factory level in The Punisher was just brutal.
And there's one level, i think it was the zoo, where at the start of the level you can throw a guy into a wood chipper.
This most definatly makes me wanna try that game.. Never had the chance to so far..
I really reckon you should try it out, i could go on all day about the executions in that game.
I had it on the Ps2 and i have finished it so many times. There's just something so satisfying about blowing off someones limbs while dual wielding m60s.

In some games where there's lots of screen blocking gore, I turn it off for multiplayer, to give me a clearer view, which lets me play better.

In single player, I try to set it to the most realistic setting (not always highest). I turn gore off if there were people who might be offended in the room.

Personally i think its kinda weird when ppl get offended by something as little as a game, and why they even bother to get excited about it tells me only one thing, they got to much spare time on their hands, and should wake up and get a reality check..

I think it's a little silly to even have optional gore. You don't tone down the violence in a zombie game and you dont raise it in a game that's trying to be realistic. So, most games define their level of gore themselves - God of War = massive amount of blood; Silent Hill = realistic amount of blood, just to name two examples.

The gore is just secondary I would say. But I always love a well executed kill.

My favorite violent episode was Dark Messiah, the adrenalin kills where great. Especial the execution type stab, followed by the kick in the face. Never got tiered of that one.
Breaking their neck with a staff was a classic too! Made me shiver all over when I heard the cracking sound
Took the words straight out of my mouth. Dark Messiah really made you feel like you were tearing some poor bugger apart.

In other games I don't enjoy the gore as much as the way it's executed or portrayed. Like in Kill Bill (I know it's not a game but best example) where all the Japanese seem to have high blood pressure, yes it's gruesome but also hilariously silly.

I think in the first manhunt, knocking a generic foul mouthed goon to his knees and splatting his face across the room with the baseball bat, and if the possitioning is right, watching it smack against the wall and slide down. And if the angle is right, seeing his now faceless head as he slumps to the floor.
Awesome.

I did that in Serious Sam(XBox version).

I like games with too much gore, I find it more immersive and it's pretty good for relieveing stress. Fallout 3 FTW!!!11!one

Made you shiver in ways you may want to tell your therapist about.

I turn it up to maximum. I like blood. In ways I should probably tell my therapist about.
If I ever got a therapist he would need a therapist himself

Hsha, I forgot about that. Or popping out of a coffin with an M60 and mowing down a funeral. The censorship in the game (the screen going gray) just made it look way better I think.

Yeah, plus I'm not too keen on watching someone being thrown onto a table saw or being on the wrong end of a drill press.

Is that graying out for all the released Punisher games or is it just me with my stupid aussie censorship?

You know what I think that you may be like my brother from another mother I do that same thing. I've been playing hitman bloodmoney and I always have the blood on just to watch their blood fly on the wall behind them when I shoot them. And it's even funnier when people come in and see it and wonder what in the world happened in the place. :)

I don't fiddle with the gore settings and I find it really sad that people want games banned because of the gore and kids playing the game. Why don't the do the smart thing and not let the kid play the game? But if you try to argue with the people who want the game banned then all logic goes out the window.
