Seeing as it's Star Wars Day... (I'm not sure how official it is, but all true nerds know it!) I thought a bit of a Star Wars themed thread was in order, so I'd like to ask my fellow Escapists, what are your favourites from the following list and why?

Movie: Return Of The Jedi - I was obsessed with this film growing up, it is my absolute favourite of the saga, three climatic battles and Luke finally gets to kick some ass.

Character: Grand Moff Tarkin - I love all the Imperial Officers but Tarkin is the pimp daddy, who else gets to boss Vader around and get away with it? Also Peter Cushing is an amazing actor.

Vehicle: This has always been a 50/50 for me between the X and Y Wings. The only thing the Rebels have that is cooler than the Empire gear are these ships, I think I like them so much because they look like they could exist one day, also I love the realism of the Rebel fleet, different ships for different jobs, fighter, bomber, intercepter etc... (I know the Empire has that too, but all TIE fighters look basically the same).

Lightsaber Duel: Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui Gon Jin vs Darth Maul. Yes I know Phantom had it's share of problems but who wasn't blown away by this the first time they saw it? And come on... Duel Of The Fates!

And since this is a gaming forum...

Star Wars Videogame: Mine is the original Battlefront on the PS2. Me and my friends can still play this for hours on end, we have different strategies for each level and army, and I love playing as a generic grunt in a huge battle as opposed to a single hero.

Movie: Return of the Jedi as well. Loved it. Great battles and some classic Solo moments.

Character: Wedge Antilles. Okay it's technically cheating since I like him more because of the Expanded Universe but still, the guy is an absolute badass.

Vehicle: A-Wings. I don't know why but I just love the thought of the speedy little bastards. On the bigger side of things I like the Star Destroyers, they're well designed and look so iconic for the whole series.

Lightsaber Duel: I don't really know. I rank them more based on the subtext to them, in which case Return of the Jedi has a lot beneath the surface, but the novelisation of Revenge of the Sith adds so much more to the duel between Obi Wan and Anakin that when I now watch it I find it so much better.

Videogame: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Academy. But then again, I like most of the Star Wars games, and Rebel Assault was pretty much my first videogame ever, so I have a bias to it. And I love the X-Wing squadrons anyway.

Movie: A New Hope. Gotta love the Death Star.

Character: Darth Maul, he was , in my opinion, the most badass of the "Darths".

Vehicle: I love the X-wing.

Lightsaber Duel: Darth Maul fight. The double-bladed lightsaber is just awesome..

Videogame: X-Wing Squadron.

Vehicle: Y wing, much cooler than the X wing

I don't think Star Wars is a bad movie by any means, but when people go off and try to turn it into something like "world whatever day" I can't help but to think that things are getting out of hand. I read the facebook page on it and it has tips on how to celebrate World Star Wars Day without "going overboard." I couldn't help but laugh at the irony that, in trying to make it into something like this, they have already gone overboard.

In short: I don't hate Star Wars, I actually like the movies, but I think a World Star Wars Day is just ridiculous.

Character: Darth Vader. Because he's Darth Vader, possibly the most badass character in the entirety of star wars, expanded universe included (ignoring his 'whiny *****' phase in episode 3)

Vehicle: Death Star. It's a vehicle. Failing that, the Imperial Star Destroyer. The really, really big one.

Lightsaber duel: Obi-Wan/Qui-gonn vs. Darth Maul or Anakin vs. Obi-Wan in episode 3.

Videogame: Either KoTOR or Battlefront 2. Probably battlefront 2.

Character: Han Solo

Vehicle: Tie Fighter (almost purely for that noise)

Lightsaber Duel: The original Vader vs. Kenobi on the Death Star.

Videogame: Sitdown Star Wars

Movie: Empire Strikes Back. I loved how it was much darker this time around. Plus it had a great soundtrack.

Character: General Grievous. He had the greatest intro in the micro animated series and he kicked 5 jedi's asses easily.

Vehicle: I was always fond of the AT-ST.

Lightsaber Duel: Anakin vs Obi-Wan. That was an awesome duel.

Videogame: Battlefront 2.

Movie: Empire Strikes Back, the good guys (The Empire) wins the day! That and I hate Ewoks so Ep 6 is out

Character: Darth Maul, the double bladed lightsaber was invented for that character; Or Boba Fett, pretty much a tie

Vehicle: Sith Infiltrator or Slave 2. One's a stealth ship and the other just beats face in a space fight

Dual: Dual of the Fates, do I have to explain why it's awesome?

VG: Empire at War, best SW RTS out there to date, though the original TIE Fighter is still pretty damn good

Movie: Empire Strikes Back - I remember the first time I saw it and I was blown away by the first glimpses into the actually structure of the Empire.

Character: Captain (Later Admiral) Piett - I liked him because the Imperial officers were bad ass and on top of that Piett was actually competent.

Vehicle: The star destroyer for me, it just looks so damn cool and powerful.

Lightsaber Duel: Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui Gon Jin vs Darth Maul. I agree with you there, it was pretty exciting to watch.

Star Wars Videogame: Mine would be Star War: Republic Commando, it was a really well done game that I enjoyed from start to finish. Too bad Lucas Arts never made a damn sequel for it.

Movie:
I always liked The Empire Strikes Back growing up and still do. I love Hoth, AT-ATs, and the whole cloud city sequence. But I'd have to say I like all three original trilogy films pretty much equally now.

Character:
It used to be Jar Jar Binks growing up but now I hate him and can hardly watch Episode 1. I liked Ben Kenobi (old one) and Han Solo was badass. C3P0 and R2D2 are cool, too. As for enemies, I'd have to go with the typical ones and say Darth Vader and just the general Stormtrooper.

Vehicle:
AT-AT's are beasts. I always wanted that Lego set, but never owned it. I do like those Republic transport gunships and the entire Trade Federation fleet. And if it counts as a vehicle, the Death Star.

Lightsaber Duel:
The one between Darth Vader and Luke was so dramatic. But I did like the duel with Darth Maul.

Videogame:
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was awesome. But I put billions of hours into Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. It's basically Age of Empires II but skinned as Star Wars. Loved it.

Character: Han Solo. Like you'd need to ask...

Vehicle: Luke's Landspeeder/ X-Wing.

Duel: When Luke and Vader first meet in Cloud City.

Game: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

Movie: Either Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. I just love the Battle of Hoth and the Battle of Endor.

Charachter: Grand Moff Tarkin. Easily one of my favorite villians of all time. The man was sublime yet traditional bad-ass. Plus the idea of Peter Cushing playing the whole part in his slippers adds to the image of Tarkin that's in my head.

Spoiler: Think of the slippers!

Vehicle: X-Wing. Used to blow up 2 Death Stars, so it can't be half bad. Plus it's a beautiful looking machine

Lightsaber Duel: Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi. It doesn't have all the fancy coreographed moves of the prequels, but it's more emotional. It's father and son doing battle while Vader is toying with Luke, trying to draw out his anger. It's certainly a more powerful scene than most of the lightsaber duels.

Game: Star Wars Battlefront 1. I love getting to fight the big battles like Hoth as just one of the guys on the ground, rather than one of the heroes.
