OK, so I recently purchased a PS3 and some games, I wont go into the list here, but they are all nice. My wife came home yesterday with a copy of Madden 10 and said that she thought I might like to give it a try. I was speechless, Im not a sports game type and told her so, but I told her I'd give it a whirl.
I booted up the PS3 and inserted the dreaded game, thinking to myself that this was be quiet painful, but at least it wouldn't last long. The next thing I knew it was 5 hours later and I was having a blast. I was shocked.
So, the question I pose to you, fellow escapist, is this; Have you ever had a game that you thought you would hate, but ended up actually enjoying? Feel free to bash me for liking Madden, I have thick skin and a cold heart, I can take it.

No, I don't play games I think I'm going to hate.

As far as Madden, I'm not going to bash you for liking it, because it's the only option you have if you want a professional football game. But I will say one thing. If you are old enough to be married, you play video games, and you were surprised by anything you found in a Madden game, it's because you've intentionally been sheltering yourself.

My conclusion is that you're either a contrarian who dislikes games simply because they are popular, or you're a gel-headed emo douche. If neither of these options are the case, then my guess is that your "Oh Mah Gawdz I likez Maddenz?!??" story never actually happened.

No game that I can think of...

But the Twilight books did this to me.

[small]I still hate myself for it...[/small]

Sims 2 did this to me. I'd avoided The Sims as a shallow middle class materialism simulator and heaped derision on it, but when my then-girlfriend (now wife) insisted that I play it so we could share neighborhoods and such, I figured "OK, I'll play dollhouse with my girlfriend" and ended up loving the game. I ultimately bought all eight expansion packs (but no stuff packs, that just screams "lame cash-in") and downloaded a few dozen mods for it.

My boyfriend got that game and woke me up at around 7am playing it T_T
The replay thingies amused me though. They looked like real sports reports XD
I don't like sports games though, I don't think they mix well.

Everyone was telling me Mirrors Edge was crap but I actually enjoyed it =)

I'm actually tempted to pick up Madden even though I'm English and have very little interest in American football or even rugby.
I guess it's just because I've never tried it, and it does get great reviews. Anyone think it's worth a buy?

EDIT: OT I honestly didn't think much of CoD4 before I played it, needless to say I have MW2 hardened on pre-order.

I can enjoy most any game, even games I hate, if I'm with the right company.

As for Madden, I too am NOT a sports gamer. I'm not even a sports watcher. But I have played several sports games with friends of old and old roomates and had fun. At work I set up a 360 with Madden 10 and four controllers and got to play a little of it. I'm not good by any means, but it was still entertaining. I also set up a PS3 version of the game for a tournament we held on Saturday. I didn't actualy play other than just goofing around a minute here and there while waiting, but I watched (ran) the entire tournament which lasted almost six hours. Most everyone had lots of fun, even I. But I would have to say I probably wouldn't enjoy playing some of those kids in the tournament. Pure monsters at that game!

I like Madden, although I'm terrible at it. I honestly didn't think I'd like Fallout 3 and I ended up loving it. On the other hand I thought I'd like Oblivion, but I ended up bored :/

I thought Final Fantasy VIII was going to be a disgrace to the FF name, from the amount I had heard about it, alot of it bad.
But I actually enjoyed it!
I knew it was going to be a Love Story going in. And while it did have it's issues, I think the whole thing was blown way out of proportion.

I didn't think I'd like the Gears games, because I heard it was all just shooty shooty gore fest.

It is that, but it's also fucking awesome.

The Madden games are pretty enjoyable to play. It's just that they release the same game over and over again. Like Final Fantasy and most Nintendo games.
