ME3 DLC - why the big fuzz?

First of all this has probably already been posted but i didnt feel like going throu the 5 BILLION!!! posts and threads of gamer rage so i make a new one!

Secondly, even though i understand some of the rage that people have about the Day one-DLC because lets face it ITS A FUCKING PROTEAN, why the big fuzz?

Many gamers rage is based on a youtube video that says that the Protean team member will be left out of the game (among other less important thing) and sold in a DLC wich is awailable on day one, A bit of a dick move but i understand why they did, and here's why:

ME3 was completed, certified and set in production in mid January, wich is the exact same time that they STARTED to make the DLC!

I dont know about you guys but i have found it very hard to put in or change something when its no longer in my hands.

So please correct me if you want or simply rage away as many have done on other threads!

Here is my opinion on the subject. When I put $60 into a game Im paying for all the development that was done prior to the games release. If content was developed during release but not finished it should be released later as free DLC (see Shale from Dragon age origins).

Knowing that standard its easy to see my issue with the prothean character DLC. It was in development before the release of the game so some of my money is paying for that. However Im not getting access to it unless I buy the collectors edition or put in more money. This makes the game incomplete

Now Im not buying ME3 anyway because Bioware has refused to do a proper PC release, where I can play the game without having to install spyware (Origin) on my PC. However my standards of what is acceptable and not acceptable says that this day one DLC is wrong. I dont want to boycott ME3 but between the spyware and now this Day one DLC I dont have a choice if I want to stay true to my principles as a consumer.

Everyone should be up in arms about this. If consumers continue to allow this to happen eventually you'll buy a single level of a game for $60 and then have to buy each successive level for another $10. The line has to be drawn somewhere and this is where Im drawing it. No one has to like or agree with my opinion but the fact is Im voting with my wallet

I hear your opinion but i choose to ignore it since it is not valid in any aspect... naaah just kiddin, you are allowed to have any opinion you want ;P

But to your reply. First of all, are you the guy that made the UK Critics Youtube video? the one wich made all gamer rage break lose!
Cause if not your post looks exactly like a copy-paste of what that guy said, no offence!

Secondly, when you buy a standard version of ME3 (on any platform) you are only paying for the costs of making and publishing ME3!
I do see your point in that everything prior to release should be in main game but since the DLC was never developed with or along side ME3 it was a seperate prodject with seperate funding they must charge for it!
A bit of a dick move but business is business.

Also, Bioware didnt expect it to be done so soon so misscalculation on there part!

On the "$60 for on level". If they ever do make it(wich is unlikely in the near future or at all) by the time we get there those $60 wont be like todays $60. Just look at what $1 was worth in 1960 compared to today

No Im not the same person (I assume you're talking about TotalBiscuit). I've never made a youtube video in my life.

Im not sure how you can say the development for this DLC and mass effect 3 didnt come from the same resource. The publisher (EA in this case) basicly pays for everything. Publishers dont tend to say "Heres X amount of dollars for the game" and "heres X amount of dollars for DLC". Instead they just give the developer money to develop a game. What comes out of that is what we end up paying for. As I said our initial investment pays for the development of a game and its content before release. Content that remains unfinished but was still developed during that time is part of the game and should be released as free DLC (and lets be honest Free DLC is always good and can even be a great marketing tool). Content developed afterwards that doesnt benefit from the consumers initial development is fine to charge for.

Now the fact that this content made it into the collectors edition and not normal editions shows that it was ready for release and pulled from the same development costs as the original game. Anyone can claim it was a seperate project but with the evidence we do have they dont have a leg to stand on. If this content had come out 2-4 weeks after release no one would have batted an eye but the fact of the matter is this is day one DLC that was worked on using the same resources as the rest of the games development. It should be free to everyone who buys the game

Finally on your inflation argument, you can put whatever numbers you want there. The problem is my point remains valid. If consumers keep saying this kind of thing is ok publishers and developers are going to continue pushing to give us less content for more money. There was already a controversial move with Final fantasy 13-2 where the game ended with a cliffhanger and the "ending" was going to be released as DLC. That right there shows that this kind of thing is beginning to happen right now, its not a fairy tale.

Also, I am quite confused that more people are not mad about this fact: CE owners (who practiced ME3 media blackout) are going to have a cool little surprise waiting for them when they find the Prothean. Everyone else HAS TO have it spoiled for them to get the damn thing in the first place. What the fuck sense does that make?

From what I understand, the character will actually be in the game regardless, the DLC just makes him an actual squadmate and gives you another mission with him.

OT: Maybe the rage isn't necessarily about the Prothean character but more the fact the information was leaked early? I mean I hardly expect all the people who entered mega-rage mode would have if they hadn't heard about the DLC until the day after getting ME3 and having played it for a while.

Apparently, it was in the script that got leaked. I haven't seen it myself, but that was more or less what I thought when I first heard of this anyway, so I'd believe it.

I like Bioware and I like Mass Effect but the way they do things (or through them by EA) bothers me. DLC is completely unnecessary and many of my favorite games didn't and don't need it. I can understand the appeal and embarrassingly I'll admit that I've spent much more on DLC than any of my friends have. But simply the best games leave me wanting more and the best kinds of DLC or expansions pack add an previously unbelievable amount more to it.

I dislike adding characters to a game or only making some available to people who buy the game new. Not that I have anything against companies wanting people to buy their games new but it shouldn't be forced either. Gamers aren't entitled but neither are gaming companies. If one or the other pushes too far the other will disappear.

OT: the fact that the DLC character is a Prothean bothers me.
- and the butterfaced Snookie looking reporter. I AM going to punch her in the face
- and the jersy shore looking noob character. He's never going to be in my party and if there's another suicide mission my perfect ending will involve his death
- and his Freddie Prince Jr. voice. Uhg the fact that he isn't COMPLETELY optional makes me lose sleep, thanks Bioware.
- also everybody talks about ME3 too much. Please stop. Especially you a-holes who haven't even played the games or have no intention to play them. Shut up
- So many of the higher up Bioware writers, designers and such leaving Bioware. ME3 could easily be the last Bioware I enjoy. As long as they don't pull another "Anders" on us. Fucking Anders
- This rant. Make it stop! Help!
- The combat does feel more expansive than it did in ME2 but I can't get rid of the nagging feeling that they couldn't have done so much more very easily. It bugs me how minimalistic it feels... Almost formulaic
- The fact that I've come to expect DLC bothers me too. Can't I just pay you $100 and you give me the whole game right away? Please =/

And any one who thinks I'm being unreasonable can blow me. You can't make me care so much about a series and then rip my heart out. By the end of this I might say that The Inheritance books, another series I've recently finished, are better than Mass Effect even though I think they are very "young adult" and standard. If only because each book expanded and its easy to see a lot of time and thought was put into each one - and each book got better in terms of writing and story. Will we be able to same about Mass Effect or is Mass Effect just going through the motions just to go through the motions? You kill me, Bioware maybe I should put all the time and money I put into you guys into another developer. One that I know is making games to make good games.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
