First read this: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Klencory

While the "beings of light" does match, along with "dawn of time", the big question is what do we call devil machines? The very first organics that created the very first synthetics?

Which then very eerily ties into with this: http://arkis.deviantart.com/art/Mass-Effect-3-Alternate-Endings-SPOILERS-289902125
As it talks about the star child talking about being the first, and ascending.

Now don't get me wrong, I think the ME3 was grossly mishandled (perhaps EA wasn't willing to let BioWare burn any more money and they "HAD" to ship a functional game; thus leading to the half arsed ending), but perhaps now we know the basis of the last minute idea for the ending came from.

Bonus from the social.bioware.com thread

Exactly. There are two endings I wouldn't like for ME 3. One being a random GOD LIKE force that saves the Galaxy or another being that to defeat the Reapers, everyone has to become a primitivst and destroy the Relays, Citadel, etc. Both would make me pretty unhappy as those endings have been done to death.

Yeah, as if there wasn't some sort of "ME Universe bible" made in the beginning to make sure the trilogy is consistent...

The final Hours of ME3 app pretty much confirms the ending was changed last minute.

The "beings of light" was probably a VI or a message in a Prothean beacon that the Volus got zapped with and due to his underdeveloped mind got confused.

In ME1 Wrex tells us Saren raided a Volus ship with seemingly nothing on it and that every other merc got killed afterwards.

I wouldn't be surprised if Saren was looking for a beacon or Porthean device, and had murdered everyone else to try to keep it under wraps.
