Another tool fan here. I was thinking of tool as I entered this thread, they're a perfect candidate for bands with meaningful songs. I agree in that Maynard lets you submerge yourself into the song and draw from it your own meaning, it's never really straightforward

Sometimes it's interesting to find out why they wrote a particular song, such as learning that Rachmaninov wrote his Prelude in C Sharp Minor after dreaming he was buried alive. It's interesting because you can really hear it coming out in the music.

i always like to hear what some of the messages behind a song means. tho i do enjoy the funny translation behind Du Hast by Rammstein, even if you translate it as You Have or You Hate, it means the same

however i love it when people don't understand what the songs are about. we once had to explain to a girl that Crazy Train was about Ozzy doing coke because she was convinced it was really about a real train.

another time i had to inform a girl that Under the Bridge by RHCP was all about Anthony's heroin addiction. she thought it was about him having a love that he lost, to which i said "yes and that love was heroin"

however the kings of odd things behind their songs belongs to The Forgotten Rebels, the vast majority of song title and songs themselves comes from overheard conversations at various Tim Horton's around Hamilton

yes, the System songs make me think about, stuff.
Question is still my favorite song for thinking about death, the universe and everything.
and everything else by them is awesome "fuck the system" style.(pun intended, twice)

My favourite Romantic piece, Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens, is all about Death coming out and bringing the dead back to life on Halloween at midnight to dance to his fiddle

I really, REALLY don't want to find out about the meaning to "Day in the Life"

I know it's drugs, but I don't want the actual meaning

I think Lennon said "I have a great idea!", McCartney said "What? Pray tell!" and Lennon screamed at the top of his lungs for two minutes whilst raping a goat, and they said "Sure, let's make that into musical form"
