wow. This is just getting out of hand. I cannot take this anymore. Why does the media constantly bash on us gamers and blow evereything we do out of proportion. They conduct studies to show if violence is linked to games and their showed to not be linked. When mas effect came out, the alian sex scene was talked about non-stop by reporters like fox. when gta4 came out, a women protested the gta4 sex scene, THAT DID NOT EXIST. she just assumed heir was a sex scene in it. I mean, how can you bring justice to that? Even recently

(props to the dude who posted the article about fat princes. that pushed me over the edge to protest games bad reputation that it doesnt deserve. Sorry i dont remember your name. All i remember is your avatar is brian form family guy. So double awesome)

The ridiculous fat princess controversy. The media is saying that fat princess is encouraging obesity in children, and says the princes implies that the game is trying to tell you that all women need saving and cant do anything by themselves.... WHAT!?! I cant understand how playing this game {b]encouraging[/b] obesity! I sure as hell dont get it? and if they beleive thatm its saying all women are helpless, why attack games? Why now? By that logic, then the story rupunzel should be controversial because the knite needs to save her because she is is helpless!

And dont get me started on these kids and their stupid decisions. Child kills three children with fathers gun then kills self. The mother Then sais, "He learned it in halo". hmmm I dont remember shooting myself or pedestrians in halo. Or when a kid drove a car with the door opend, and accidently hit someone with the door. Gta was blamed. How come the gaming industry is blamed so much? Is it because most People have seen a dozen movies and little to no gaming experience. the only real controversy that I belevieve wasnt blown out of proportion may be the hot coffe mod or arguably the introduction to mortal combat. I dont know why ime so pissed all of a sudden but always people judge me or assume ime violent or homicidel because i play games. Are you Judged like that? Do you think the media seriously needs to play some games? Am I blowing them out of proportion?

Normally I don't agree with these kind of threads but for once they're right. The media has honestly made us gamers look terrible. They've made us look so bad that people who don't know what gaming really is now think it's worthy of a place among the seven deadly sins.

For some sick reason, I would actually enjoy hearing about a serial killer or misguided teenager commiting mass murder "because he learned it in games". Rip peoples head off, dragon uppercut, or punching a boulder.

I can already picture the news:

"The murderer died from his injuries after he went to his bed thinking it would heal his wounds."

The. Media. Is. Retarded.
This is true. And also, remember that Yahtzee said that controversy and the games industry go hand in hand like Ico and Yorda.

I think so, considering how i had never heard of most of these things you mentioned until this rant. Is it that we as a gamer community search out these tid bits of story because we lack attention? I Honestly do think we dwell way too much on what little they say, seems to only add to the problem im my opinion.

But what a big problem is, nobody is on our side. What whould be great is if we took somebody from the internet, not a casual gamer who works for the media. mabye somebody from the escapist because we are lightyears ahead in terms of sophistication on the internet (despite my inabillity to spell corectly), and just talk about why they are wrong and give our side of the story. i whould love to bee that person but it will probubly never happen.

You know who I think is to blame? The parents! The parents rely on video games to entertain and raise their kids for them so they don't have to and then get pissed and blames the games industry when the kid acts out based on the only thing that he/she's been learning from, the games. These parents have full control over what kind of games their kids play, after all they have ratings and content descriptors now so it's no mystery. Also they could try raising their kids themselves maybe. Oooh now there's a concept! Some would say that in today's world, there's not enough time or some other dipshit excuse, funny they always seem to find time to form these protest groups or ***** to the kid's teachers (my mom was a teacher), but they never seem to have time to raise their kid. Funny that.

Why So Serious? I mean what do you care what ignorant and uninformed people say about you? (and most people don't even give a shit about this issue) C'mon stop whining and just ignore them.

I read all about the Mass Effect sex scandal when it was all over the web, GTA drama I've always ignored. As for being judged for being a gamer has never really happend to me. Ever since I was a kid my family has always allowed me to game, bought games for me, my father being a gamer himself with his old beloved Atari with over 1000 games (his old pride hehe)

Lots of friends who are gamers and so on. Everyone's had a few encounters of people looking at you with a dumbstuck look asking "Why play games, it's boring". But those are few in my case. But if it's one thing I've learned from the internet it's that everything is worse in America hehe.

Ratings, ************! Do you speak it?

In all seriousness, the media covers what they believe will give their channel an edge in number of viewers. That's usually fearmongering of some sort, quote from Obama blown out of proportion and taken out of context, or random thing about Michael Jackson's life as of late. They really appeal heavily to the lowest common denominator.

You're right, we should not try to whine louder than the media, that just makes us look worse.

You are asking a medium that thrives on controversy and lies to grow up.

This is like asking one of those bitchy girls you went to school with to stop fucking everything with a pulse - it's impossible, because it is part of who (or in this case, what,) they (or it,) are (or is.)

You cannot separate the stupidity from the media, because the stupidity is the media.

Also, there are some people who read too much into things.
They are frequently called "assholes," or sometimes, "Jack Thompson."

I raise a couple eyebrows from non-gamers when I say that I've been playing DOOM since I was 7, but they usually calm down when they see that I'm a nice guy who views violence as a last resort.

"Everything is A-OK in the world of gaming."
"Several avid gamers have been spotted not carrying their gun to school."
"Chinese gamer played the popular World of Warcraft game for two days straigth without dying."
"A gamer's mother testifies: My son's gaming addiction has not changed him at all. We're considering a shrink."

It wouldn't make exciting news now, would it?

Anyway, let's not worry to much about it till the day they start playing games from back to front to provide evidence of satanic contents. It's what they did with metal. It blew over. It'll blow over for us gamers too.

they just want to blame something that is new, and will definitely not do anything back
how strange would it be if Bioware sues FOX because they drop their sales with their bullshit stories?
that would make for a awesome storie
