Hey there, everyone.

I'm in Norway right now and I seem to have come down with a case of a sore throat. Usually a sore throat goes away after a day or two but this has persisted for 5 days and feels very different. I can cough just fine and feel no pain whatsoever, however, when I swallow It feels like broken glass is going down my throat. The pain stops halfway down my neck and tends to manifest on the leftside of my throat.

Can anyone help me? The pain is unbearable.

If it's this bad, go see a doctor. You can get much better medical advice from a doctor than from a forum in a video game website.

Yeah, you should be seeking medical health from a medial professional for this one.

Take some Vitamin C pills, drink a load of water, cider, or Orange juice, and SEE A DOCTOR.

We are the internet, not a Physical Therapist.

Try WebMD.com. Either that, or find a friend with training in the medical field, although, that could have been your intention here....

Anyways, I haven't been to see a doctor to find out what's wrong with me since my sister got her Bachelors' Degree in nursing.

Yes, they're called doctors. You should go see one.

Want a reason to do so? It sounds like you've got a throat infection of some sort. Leave that unattended and you can face all sorts of nasty shit. You don't want to end up on a saline drip for 12 hrs because the pain of swallowing made you stop taking in enough fluids to risk serious dehydration, do you? How about a tracheotemy because your throat has swollen up and blocked your breathing?

GO SEE A FRIGGING DOCTOR.

You should go see a doctor as soon as the opportunity arises. Also, drink Vitamin C and eat stuff like ice cream, soft serve, where its cold and goes down easy isntead of jagged peices, like crackers.

have you had your tonsils out?

Sounds like strep throat, take everyones advice and go see a doctor. Strep throat, if left untreated, can cause permanent damage.

Yep, this is almost assuredly strep. The reason it's more painful on one side than the other when you swallow is due to a pustule located toward that particular side of your throat. Strep usually doesn't clear up too well on its own, so go see a doctor. They'll just write a prescription for antibiotics, no poking and/or prodding involved!

Sounds an awful lot like Strep.

Go to a doctor, drink hot Salt water for the pain, then go to a doctor. That shit aint going away by itself. Ive had it multiple times. It isn't life threatening, but untreated it could get infected.

Plus they give you that pink medicine that tastes like rainbows and smiles.

Get a flashlight and check your mouth in the mirror. If one of your tonsils has white dots all over it or seems large/red/pissed, then you should see a doctor immediately as it's a case of strep throat/tonsillitis - which can be deadly if untreated and if you wait too long can result in the loss of your tonsils (which is very expensive).

Sometimes it may not be this obvious in the early stages. But it usually starts with this terrible swallowing pain on one or both sides that becomes more painful beyond imagination, then works up to a terrible glass-stabbing pain in the ear. It's just that the enlarged tonsil and abundance of tonsoliths is the biggest give-away.

A temporary relief for that pain is to gargle salt water a few times a day, especially after every meal, and drink/eat only very cold things. You can also take sore throat liquid medication or suck on lozenges - but that's only a short-term temporary help.

If you don't have tonsils, then this isn't it. Even so, seeing a doctor should be a thought.

And this is a worst case scenario, not the absolute conclusion.
