So i'm thinking about buying it off of steam. the gold back with the expansion is 30.00 us. do you think this is a good deal?

well, I would... but I have a Mac nevertheless, my small experiences with the Total War series has told me that its absolutely brilliant, and if I were ever allowed to own one (damn Apple...) it would probably instantly become one of my favourite games of all time (I'm a total sucker for RTS...). So yeah, I haven't played it, but I've heard good things about it. That and its Total War. So I recommend it.

Yes, the game is worth it just for the mods. Some of the mods for this game are absolutely amazing. Play the regular game for about 2 months. Then google Stainless Steel for a mod that makes the game essentially 100 times better. If you want something fantasy based there is always Third Age:Total War, a mod that I actually thought was a commercial product until I saw it was listed under mods on MODDB.

Edit: Yes it has online play but really the whole point of the game is the awesome singleplayer.

Ya it does have online play, just the battles though, no campaiging . But I must say I don't know if there are still people playing it online, so I don't know what use it will be.

I have it, but I avoid online gaming like the plague. Partly because I don't think I am really that good, and also because I don't really like online gaming.

Excellent game, but very buggy in some parts. Al ot of R:TW fans whinge about the lack of variety in nations but that is superficial and you'll soon get over it.

I don't play online either. But the singleplayer is well worth the money, so don't worry about that.
