I am looking for techniques, actually. Right now all I have is exercising and fighting games... which isn't terribly productive.
Sometimes when I need to relax and think straight, I take a few minutes to meditate. It's quite hard in some ways, because you really need to clear your mind when doing it. A good start is to focus on your breathing. Yoga has some quality breathing techniques for various intentions, and one I practise myself is usually intended for relaxing.
When I meditate, I search for a quiet place, and seat or lay myself down comfortably. I then concentrate solely on my breathing: four seconds of breathing in, eight seconds breathing out, wait for four seconds, then breathe in again for four seconds. Keep that up for a few minutes, and try not to think about anything except your breath.
That can be wonderful on it's own, but sometimes I go a step further, and actually imagine my energy recharging. In Taiji, the energy, or Chi of your body is very important. It flows through your entire body, and energises it. I saw somewhere that this energy is recharged with, well let's call it cosmic energy. The energy flows in at the bottom of your spine, and flows out at the top of your head. At times I imagine the energy exiting the top of my head, being a bit drained and thus the colour red. I then imagine the revitalised energy as green flowing back through my spine.
At first I concentrate at the individual parts; consequently the energy leaving the body, and then re-entering, and flowing through the spine and body. When I have enough focus, I then try to picture the process as a whole, and imagine a continuous flow of energy coursing through my body. This in itself is quite draining on the mind, because you need to concentrate hard. But the result is quite pleasing. If you are willing to try abstract concepts like this open mindedly, you too may find the result to your liking!
