I am obsessed with Oblivion. It's all I've been playing for the last few weeks. I think it's that good. So now, I must wonder.

When the time comes to choose in an Elder Scrolls game, what class do you roll? The cunning Agent? The damage-soaking Warrior? Or perhaps a custom-made? Tell me why, and what strategy you like to use. Some might argue that this should be a poll, but that's upwards of twenty-one different options, and that don't fly, dog.

Right now, I'm using a Bosmer Acrobat. There's some pretty good advantages there, such as becoming a Journeyman of Sneak by Level 2. It is an excellent dungeon-raiding class, what with the lockpicking and picking off your enemies with the bow one by one. If you do get aggro, you've also got your Blade skill and Block skill to stop you getting gang-owned.

Now...Discuss!

Depends on where I'm at. At my mother's house I created a Star Thief, a thief that uses magic for his thievery like alteration for lock picking and Mysticism for telekenisis and finally Illusion to make everybody happy when I steal them.

At my father's I use a Warlock, a warrior that not only relies on his strength with a mace but also relies on conjuring allies and armor, creating protective shields and poisoning the foe through magic. I discovered he can be a real havoc when he's able to fend off against about 20 raiders.

Edit: Also, these classes seem much more fun and the "fighting 20 people" seems possible because I use several mods like Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.

Wow, that sounds pretty fun. I should try that some time.

In Morrowind I rolled an Orc Barbarian, in an attempt to run the same route as the seven minute speedrun...

Usaully get a custom made. Moslty stealth. Last time it was something I called a Pathetic Weakling which ended up killing everyone with a single bow shot. It's pretty simple Light Armor,Markman,Stealth and Illusion for Chameleon. But still Copter if haven't tried Morrowind I strongly recomend it.

Last class I made was a "Painkiller" one.
"As mankind hurled itself forever downwards into the bottomless pit of eternal chaos, the remnants of civilization screamed out for salvation - redemption roared across the burning sky...The Painkiller!"

It's also a judas priest album.

I started out playing a goody-goody Imperial. But I got bored, created a wood elf with neon green hair and made her a thief and murderer. My stats say I've stolen and pickpoketed over 900 items out of people's homes. Fun, fun.
"Burn and shooting, bomb and looting!" :)

I am a white and blue Khajit (cat lady), who is a assassin and master of alchemy, and also quite good with spells. She fun for when i get bored just sit on top of a roof, and see how many people i can shot before y health runs out.

Female Wood Elf, specialized in bow usage for assassinations. I was planning on using a sword too, but since that's specced in the Strength attribute (or w/e it is again), I had that stat at 30 when I started, and as a Light Armor character, close range isn't really healthy. By the time I actually wanted to use a sword (think I was level 18), I found it to be worthless. Paid for a few trainers in the meantime, am levelling my Light Armor skill through trainers mostly, and I'm running around everywhere with a simple Invisibility spell. Hardly any challenge at all, but meh. Haven't even bothered to continue the main storyline (same with SI)

And then there's my female Nord, who is so abominably slow, but it's just for the melee 'kicks' you can get from the game. I've finished the KotN storyline with her already, halfway through the main storyline. Just can't be arsed to continue, dungeons aren't that exciting.

Thinking of starting all over again, but with a melee focussed character, that can conjure up allies. Thing is, when I messed around with the Skills, I ended up picking one Skill out of each attribute. Fuck yeah.

I have some serious character ADD, so I remake them all the time. My favorite though (this is true with our DnD campaign too) is a mage who thinks he's a thief.
I use mage skills to act as a thief and assasin. The only real thiefy skills my char has would be sneak. I have made a whole set of clothes that each piece gives me 20% chameleon to total 100%. I got bored after that, so put it in storage and rely on spells and sneak skillz now.

Ah, Oblivion, where you could be a warrior, or a mage, or a thief. Or a mage-thief. Or a thief-warrior. Or the ultimate warrior-mage-thief.

So many choices.

Mage-thief FTW. Use alteration to break in, steal anything that isn't nailed down, steal the nails, steal the stuff that is nailed down, use feather, run.

Why so many people using alteration for thieving skills in this thread? Why not just use thieving skills? Plus getting the skeleton key in Oblivion makes lockpicking retardedly easy.

Anyway, my first character I played the game through with was mostly stealth based. Light armor, marksmen, sword, acrobatics, stealth, security, restoration, athletics, and something I don't recall as my primary/secondary abilities... took out everything with a bow and arrow but would get owned in melee later on. But, I could sneak through entire Oblivion levels without being detected... made the game a little easy when NO ONE could see you, EVER.

Then I made a warrior/mage with heavy armor, conjuration, and I think Blunt weapons. Found out that conjuration is ridiculously overpowered. You don't even need to fight, just conjure up a couple of dremora/dremora lords, or something similar and you can cake-walk through the game. Deadroths are really effective early on as well.

Isn't the basic idea that no matter how you start off, everyone converges upon the "master of Everything" archetype?

Well, whatever. I enjoyed using my Orc. Nothing says "Ouch" like a sledgehammer colliding with your spleen. It also helped stave off my claustrophobia since, y'know, nothing can hurt you through the Mysterious Orc Roboskin or whatever they have.

Yes, we know, you hate Oblivion. I should probably alter my first post to ask what classes you pick in The Elder Scrolls.

I don't go for classes as much..I sort of go for style.

I always play the roll of a thief, like an assassin but I've always taken the warrior perfected Nord simply because of the height differance compared to other characters.

Mages are fun but a little too complex, and warriors are too in your face in my opinion. Hit this till it dies. Fun..

I do it because I can't be arsed to wait till level 10 for the skeleton key.

My character is a Nord Battlemage. The Battlemage's majors being: heavy armor, blade, armorer, block, destruction, conjuration, and restoration.

So I usually go for close quarters combat, but I always give my enemy a good ball of Frost to the face before getting too close. I primarily use my conjuration abilities to give myself an edge when I am out numbered, or to provide my enemies with a distraction, thus giving myself time to execute a couple healing spells, or deliver a couple of cheap shots.
