Yeah, because western games are just CoD /facepalm.

And I hate to break it to you: FF is as japanese as it was. In nearly every way it is like FF X (the shittiest game I have ever played). Linear, questionable appeal of characters (or nonexistant), angsty cutscene BS. All of them existed in FF at least since FF X. The only thing that was different and better in any regard was the battle system.
Final fantasy is now a pretty corridor with battles and cinema. That's western game design, that's Call of Duty. And no, not quite every western game is Call of Duty, but when japanese developers talk about 'not selling as well as western games' they are looking at the greatest seller of all and they are wondering why their games aren't selling like this game.

What annoys me is the repeated use of the term "American games". The Western market also includes a sizable chuck of Europe and Canada. Seriously, the amount of popular, high quality games that aren't made by Americans is greater than one would think.

A lot of my favorite games are made in Canada, UK, France and numerous Eastern European nations.

[sub]As a little side note I wish that Capcom would left Mr. Inafune finish Megaman Legends 3. [/sub]
Yeah, but that would require Capcom to admit it made a(n obviously) bad choice. And just like they want to believe Bionic Commando was the next sliced bread, they also aren't gonna admit they made a stupid decision with that either.

Hell, the most we are getting as an admission of stupidity is Ninja Theory's Devil May Cry title. At least NT grabbed a more fitting voice actor, gave him some more "Dante-ish" lines, bulked him up a bit more so he isn't some twiggy crackhead, and even appeared to have altered his hair style by a bit.
Capcom would of just plugged their ears and start shouting "Changes? What changes?! There's no changes to Dante!"
I would pay the guy that has the resident evil 2 prototype to dump that iso online but cap-com pretends that doesn't exist either

What is that and WHY haven't I seen this before!?
That would be the orignal resident 2 that was scrapped by capcom around 89-91percent and finding people here that had tech demos of the game is beyond rare becasue they are under gag orders not release or dump the iso online. So some of them took in play game-shoots that received the beta or code named resident evil 1.5 another reason why capcom is just horrible.

This explains in part why most of the Japanese publishers have been trolling Western Audiences lately. Superiority complex.

Whatever. Their funeral.

Mutual cooperation between different branches of the gaming industry to try and advance the medium? Nah, that'll never work. :p
They tried that once in Anime, and it produced Cowboy Bebop...which wasn't well-received in Japan on its launch as I understand.

Perhaps it's a similar problem in a different medium.

Well, the Japanese game industry has been the top dog for much of the market's history, it's no wonder that Japanese developers have gotten a bit prideful, but I agree with Inafune that some updating is in order. Markets shift, and the gaming market is doing just that.

However the reception in Japan, Cowboy Bebop is a terrific series with a great movie.

Today, yes. I've been told it wasn't the case when Bebop was brand new because it was "Too western".

In other news, EA purchased Capcom and a strange glitch began occurring in every Mega Man title in which the Blue Bomber places his megabuster to his temple and vaporizes his own face. :p
Thats impossible, Capcom won't make Mega Man games anymore.

Thank you for failing to realize that a joking response is a joke.

Ehhhhhh In my opinion it is not so much that the world has turned its back on the Japanese gaming industry but more that they have slowly been closing themselves off from the rest of the world and refusing to change to modern game design.

Like that whole Project Rainfall debacle, the numerous games that have either been withheld or canceled do to "western gamers not loving us enough" (paraphrased of course), and the general withholding of content in games that they do release (aka stuff like the difference between the Pal and American versions of FF 12, an undeniably better game).

That's just my two cents though.

Fact: Inafune didn't create Mega Man. Akira Kitamura did,as he was the first designer and the superior on the original project. Inafune just kind of was passed the torch.

Any way, it's true. He's mainly referring to Capcom, though. P*, SEGA, Atlus, and Nintendo know how to connect to and communicate with the American audience. Capcom mainly relies on old strategies that get them nothing but bad press.

When I see a phrase like "black hole in a brothel", I always scroll back up to check who the author is - but it's silly. I already know.

I <3 Grey Carter.

The main thing that I love about JRPGs and most Japanese games is the brighter, more stylish and emotional aesthetic that is often applied to the presentation of the game, compared to many Western games which have the aesthetics of a hurled brick (and the whole "dark and edgy" thing is way overdone in most Western games). However, JRPGs and Japanese games have incorporated very few, if any, advances in game design, game play, and game mechanics, whereas Western games have developed significantly in those areas. Essentially, while Japanese games look young and fresh, they play like ancient embalmed mummies.

For me, the ultimate experience would be to combine the aesthetics of the Japanese games with the game design, mechanics, and game play advances of Western games.

I've always beleived that Inafune was a visionary in gaming. I'm a huge fan of everything he's been a part of. But his quote made me sad: "Western gamers are turning their back on us." He may be right about Japan needing to adapt to the times, but I think he's not being critical of western gamers enough.

After the Tsunami/Earthquake/Meltdown, The same fellow westerns who claimed to love Japan for their games immediately bitched about the $40 price tag for Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, claiming they "were totally ripped off." To all you entitled assholes out there:

FUCK YOU.

Seriously, ask yourselves how much money you invest in Online/MMO memberships, DLC and God knows what on Hardware, and then tell me you still have the right to complain about a $40 "expansion pack" that was worth every penny, made out of licenses that people will drop $20 to see once in a movie. I strongly believe that entitled bullshit like that is why Capcom got weird with and ultimately canceled Megaman Legends 3. A big mistake from Capcom, a bigger problem with Western audiences.

EDIT: Actually, No. Scratch that last sentence. Capcom wasn't even going to consider Megaman Legends 3 until they got such a massive outcry from the fanbase. So they were got weird with all the development contests, arguments with Inafune, and what not, TRYING TO GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANTED. But they couldn't figure it out, because the true fanbase got drowned out by bitchy brats. They should've just stuck to their guns, and let Inafune's ideas go uncompromised.
