Checked to see if this was posted yet, and I didn't see a topic on the first two pages.

After four trailers and tons of hype, Capcom has canceled Mega Man Universe. This is likely due to the departure of former developer, Keji Inafune (we miss you) and the boycotts towards Capcom.

Personally, I don't mind this. The game looked like the fanfiction game for the franchise.

This is kinda saddening, I was honestly looking forward to this. Hope they didn't scrap it and maybe pick up on it later.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Ah..... I'm a huge fan of the series, and even if it was 'fanfiction' I thought it would have been awesome. I've fallen behind on all the promises they had for the game, but still... for me, this sucks.

Truthfully though, I've been keeping busy with schoolwork and know nothing of these boycotts nor the departure of Keji.

It was going to be an MMO, right? Yea, I don't see it as a big loss. As long as Megaman Legends 3 is still coming along, I'm happy.
It was actually more of Mega Man meets LBP. You could play as tons of characters in the Mega Man and Capcom universe (Ryu was featured as well as NA box-art Mega Man) and you could create your own levels. The art style wasn't exactly something to be admired, though and it just didn't look fun, to me.

Keji departed a few months ago. The boycotts have most likely come from purists and posters on 4chan's /v/. I only boycotted MvC3 due to the developers pretty much spitting in the grave of Clover, false promises, etc. Other than that, I just haven't had a reason to buy a Capcom game in the last two years.

Damn. Even though I would have preferred something focused in the X-era it still looked promising. Oh well, bring on MML3.

I'm guessing you're not a retro gamer. Let's look at the overall franchise (portables aside, as I haven't owned a portable system since the black-and-white Gameboy and don't count portable games as canon).

Megaman 1-3: stellar gameplay that upped the bar for the whole metroidvania/contra genre(s).
Megaman 4: still really good, long and difficult, involving and fun.
Megaman 5-7: stale in spite of a graphics overhaul on 7.
Megaman 8: glorius, inventive and fresh.

Megaman X: a fantastic evolution of the earlier games. Vibrant, involving, very challenging and ultimately fun.

Megaman X2-X8: stale, aside from a few interesting gameplay mechanics in some of the later games.

Megaman 9-10: a fun throwback to Megaman 1 and 2, and super-challenging, but still ultimately stale.

Megaman Universe would have been a great next step for 2D Megaman games, especially with the level editor. The 2 1/2D design did look like crap with the "Megaman" model (which was crap), but there was always the Rockman model (which actually looks like Megaman) and the others. Other than that, the game looked fantastic to me.

Personally, I'd like to see a Megaman game that mixed 2D and 3D by using those moments from the old 8-bit games where Megaman freezes and the screen dramatically shifts to the right or left to transition instead into the third dimension. But I also wanted a Metroid game that didn't feature a Samus with battered wife syndrome

The level editor was the only reason this game was on my radar, so I suppose I am somewhat disappointed. The platforming genre needs more level editors!

There is little chance that this game would have been good anyways, not a big deal.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Damn it, I was really lookin' forward to that. I have a huge boner for "create your own level" games.
Too bad, it looked like a game that had a lot of potential. At least I still have LBP to satisfy any creative urges I have.
