Then you are awesome and should win a piece of the interwebz! And a cookie.

I don't get the whole idea that cats are girly; they're just pets. I personally find it very cute when dudes own cats.

It's not weird, I like cats but I'm more of a dog person. And I've had a pet Rat, and she was the greatest pet I've ever had...

I'm male, and I have a cat. Actually, I have two cats now as my girlfriends cat lives at my place. In my book, Cats > Dogs. I would never get myself a dog.

Im a guy and i have just gotten a kitten recently, tbh it was more of a practical choice, i can leave a cat at home for a few hours and nothing will happen though if i left a dog at home everything would be wrecked.

As a kid i have had quite a lot of dogs and cats but i slightly favour the cats more though i have nothing against dogs or dog owners.

My personal stance is Dogs are loyal because they need to be, ie cant hunt for themselves, need attention etc? (though i agree this is mostly due to human selective breeding) while a cat would be loyal because it wants to be as a stray cat can usually fend for itself quite well. though the flip side of this is an average dong will be more affectionate than an average cat (though mine usually is quite friendly)

EDIT:

Also if you need a specific animal to show your manliness you have more issues to deal with...

I hate dogs...and if someone says is 'gay' to own a cat i will either cut them or tell them gay means happy and THEN cut them.

Sorry, which is more manly? The loping furster that loves to lick balls, or the stone-cold arrogant-son-of-a-***** killer who thinks everything and everyone else is below him?

I don't understand why people think cats are girly, though it's probably because people keep them inside and treat them like children.

I do love dogs as well, but cats pip it for me.

And I just saw this, which sums it up perfectly:

No srsly how are cats not manly. They spend their days sleeping, killing, cuddling, mutilating and staring condescendingly at things.

As a male yes it's weird, but weird is an oft misused word. Anything that isn't the norm is technically weird.

I prefer cats myself.
This. And I'm inclined to make an obvious pun but I'll steer clear of the banhammer and let you figure it out for yourselves :p

Seriously though, cats ftw. And I don't see what's not manly about one of the laziest creatures on the entire Earth that only cares about itself, it sounds like my kind of person/animal :p

Okay, so a few weeks ago I was chatting with some friends at work and the topic of pets came up. Everyone talked about their dogs or lack of pets, and then my turn came up - I told them I had a cat, and the mocking commenced.

A few days later, I heard some girls at the pub talking about these guys they dated, and they laughed over one example of a guy with a cat, both agreeing that it was weird for a guy to have one. "He's ******," I believe they said specifically.

Later again, I was talking to this girl at another pub, and told her I had a cat - she also told me that it was kinda weird for a dude to own a cat, but "at least it's not, like, a ferret or rat or something like that."

So here's my question to you, Escapees - is it really that weird for a guy to own a cat? Tell me your gender and whether you think it's weird or not. If you think it is, why?
I'm a guy, I own two kittens. Not only do girls like that I have them, the little critters are girl-magnets, I swear. I have a regular list of girls who come and visit me just to hang out with my cats for a while. I swear I'm not making this up.

Cats are awesome. I had two cats in college and I just recently got a new one. I should also add that I f***ing hate dogs. All dogs. I wish pain upon them.

Male.
I have a cat, so I'm biased to say it's not weird. But hey, I know of people with pet ostriches so a pet cat isn't weird at all. Besides, judging someone based on their pet is a stupid thing to do. If the person has more than 3 cats, then you can start to worry; or more than 3 of any animal other than cows, sheep or horses.

cats rule, they are all killers every last one of them and you can't breed it out. This is the reason i do not like people that let their house cats run around outside, nevermind the health issues, getting hit by cars getting worms from killing and eating birds and mice, anti cat people that do not mind doing terrible things to cats.

My last cat was so much like a dog it was almost creepy tho, he would follow you around, he always wanted to be the center of attention, he was super vocal, he lived for sitting next to or on your lap and getting petted or playing with his toys. But i always knew when he was dreaming he was thinking of ways to kill me.

Dogs are ok but they loud, co dependent to extreme, slobbering, and many variety of dogs thru breeding are severely inbread. granted you can treat a dog like crap and it still will be loyal, they are much more tolerant than your average cat, which makes them better to have around children, pester a cat too much and your likely to get clawed or bitten.

Cats curious nature is also great for epic luls, nothing like having your cat wandering around the house with a box stuck on its head meowing at the top of his lungs and running into things for your amusement. Course i rescued him soon enough after i had a good laugh. You just do not get that kind of stuff with dogs.

This is the first I've ever heard of social stigma towards guys with cats... EVER. I hope it doesn't became a thing. Cats need love too. It's bad enough we have stigma over clothing, hair, fitness, drug use- but don't pull innocent pets into the mix! >_< I can't adopt ALL the cats! (even if I want to.)

I'm a guy, and in my lifetime I've taken care of well over eighty cats. No, I don't work at an animal shelter, but we have a lot of feral cats in our area because of the remote location from towns and the abundance of farms out here. People will adopt a cat, not like it, and instead of returning it, just set it free out in the country. This all started with the next door neighbor adopting two cats. Shortly thereafter, they kicked the cats out the door when they couldn't stand the dander. They moved over to our yard (one of the few that are fenced in in this neighborhood) and we took care of them, hoping they could keep the rampant field mouse problem under control. Two soon became six, then it continued to escalate from there. At the height, we had about 40 cats running around, then someone started to develop the land behind us and dumped some "unknown chemical" out and the cats got into it and the number dropped down to less than ten. (We called the Health Department, EPA, and the township about it, then we got kicked around with who's jurisdiction it fell under until someone dropped it on the Army Corp of Engineers who did absolutely nothing and stopped returning phone calls after that first attempt)

At least a dozen new cats are born here, and about 1-4 actually survive to adulthood because of traffic and other animals that prey on kittens (such as raccoons, skunks and possums and the neighbor's dogs), so the number has stayed steady for a few years now. The group that remains now is among the most friendly we've had over the last eight years, and they actually don't mind any human contact. So remember the good karma you are building up from taking care of your cat, because there are thousands a year that don't get such an opportunity to be cared for.
