I hate myself. I hold myself to standards I would never dream of imposing upon anyone else. As such, I'm just never good enough. It's a constant disappointment in my life that I'm not perfect. It's not that I necessarily want to be...just that I disgust myself by not being, because my flaws are glaring in my eyes.

I'm my own worst enemy. It's pretty hilarious.
You should relax a bit =)
Perfection is boring anyway. Not a bad thing to strive for, but still, no one is and no one will ever be perfect.
I'm perfectly aware, which is sometimes even more depressing. But I'm fairly relaxed these days.

In the modern world, happiness comes from a prescription.
I suggest stop being an emo. Too many people trying to be depressed for little reason.
Don't pretend you know me or my life. Because you don't.

Depression isn't a conscious choice either.

That's ignorance, you're being ignorant. You have a filthy mind and doodle in your soul. [/squeaky M. Jackson voice]

So many people use that excuse it's not funny anymore. Also, there are therapies, drugs and so on.

I have a bunch of them. My ex-art teacher who now provides councilling on all of my artistic endevours. My ex-teacher, now friend who I love to talk to about personal exploration and the importance of self. My brother who is and has always been one of my biggest influences in almost everything I do. My dad whom without whom there would be no puns in my life.

My mentor is easily Dr Cox. Wait, are we talking real life? Damn. In which case, probably my parents, and that's about it.

Captain Murphy. He's an airline pilot who took the civilian way through aviation. He's helped me along my way to getting all of my flight certificates.

I've never really had a mentor... somebody I could go to for anything, who guided me through life. I've had a few mentor-like friends but they never really stuck around.

Generally I appear as the mentor. Which is strange, because I'm not that old or really that worldly... just experienced I guess.

My older brother was my mentor growing up. He taught me almost everything I know about cars, and other things.

My mento became my manatee when I helped my big brother write his first proper job application last week. I've learned what not to do by watching him live his life of solitude and excessive nerdiness.

Other than that I've been learning as I go and dealing for myself, I've never really had anyone take me under their wing, proverbial or otherwise. Would be pretty cool if some massive bird creature did take under its wing, though. I could probably get on Oprah if that happened.

Then you'll know there are no magic bullets. You can't just take a pill and say, "Wow. I am no longer depressed. Thank god for that!" People spend their whole lives depressed. I'm not currently depressed myself, but I'm not going to flat out say it won't ever happen again.

And therapists are laughable at best.

I don't have a mentor, really; which is actually very disturbing. I don't act as a mentor to anyone that I know of, which is good because I will be the first to tell you that I'm deeply, deeply flawed.

I do serve as confidant and counsellor to most of my friends, however. I've had total strangers who are simply a 'friend of a friend' approach me and ask to talk about some of the most serious, fucked-up shit because, apparently, I "give the best advice ever."

I attribute it to my training in psychology. Now if I only had been able to get a job in that field... :p

But speaking of which, I can tell you that antidepressants are not a solution, and were never meant to be. They are intended to be a tool to allow the patient the emotional distance to constructively work on their psychological issues, and should be used in tandem with serious counselling. Unfortunately, they are often seen as an end, not a means, and there are many people going through life emotionally castrated instead of be properly discovering and resolving their root issues.

If you are not psychotic (or any other condition which requires agressive medication to even maintain normalcy) and you go to a psychiatrist who tries to tell you that medication is the solution, you need to change therapists.
