So I just started watching this serie only now(I was pretty sick of cheesy stories and characters when it came out but in the end is no as bad as I thought or atleast not bad in the way I thought),saw only the first 2 season so far and I can't get over the moral issue in it,atleast in regards to Merlin and Gaius. They just seem so...wrong,and thinking about hothey developed in the story it remings me so much of Dragon Age 2,or more precise to a certain type or mentality that mostly the templar npcs have. I don't mean the ones with clear even if wrong ideas like Meredith but mostly those that agree there is a problem with the mages but no matter what the templars do they always take the templar side when mages retaliate against injustice. Don't get me wrong I always hought blood magic was as bad if not even worse of a choice but I digress even more.
Back to Merlin: episode after episode he just seem to get worse and worse to the point I started thinking he is made on purpose to be disliked. Episode after episode he seems as guilty as Uther for the slaughter of mages but while Uther is clear in his intentions Merlin is hiding under a cape of falsity. Even the so called propecies of Morgana and Mordred all I see is Merlin doing as much(even if in some cases unintentionally)as killing families and friends of certain figures and then wonder why they get so desperate in trying to get revenge? But even beyond that,Morgana for example until mid season 2 he seemed so closed to her telling Gaius how much he feels for her that she is alone in her torment and not even 3 episodes later she is treatng her like an enemy already.
So it's not that I have a problem with who are the good guys, since the writters of this kind of shows are always pretty bad with at the end always forcing and pointing to make sure people understand who should be the bad guys, but really no matter what Mordred and Morgana become later they are ten times better persons than Merlin. As for Uther and Arthur,if I only saw 1 episode, I'd say they are made perfect but their role is copy paste in each episode doing the same mistakes, having the same rants and in case of Arthur even having the same jokes each episodes.
So really what is wrong with this serie or it's just a matter of taste ? I really miss the point of making Merlin such an unlikable character, not because cause main character. And no the fact that at the end of each season he actually does something right doesn't make me see him differently.
