I was trying to sleep and my sick mind came up with something quite disturbing that could be the premise for a really really terrifying game. It's basically a very similar idea to System Shock 2 where you have a Rogue AI (A virus in this case) that is able to infect and utilize any electrical component with a processor.

In the year 2024 a strange transmission is picked up from space. About 15 minutes after the transmission is spotted by the ISS station in orbit over Earth, the station goes silent. The TSA (Terran Space Association) analyzes the transmission but is unable to decode much of the data it contained. The TSA then sends a team to investigate the ISS, now orbiting derelict over Earth. (This will be the prologue mission. You play as one of the away team members). During the mission you find out that the stations computers have been seized by a malevolent AI program, and before killing you it tells you that it has also infected computer systems on Earth. It says there is no hope for your species and that they are destined to serve them. The AI triggers a reactor overload which causes a rather large breach in the station's hull and you're sucked out into space, your death marking the end of the prologue mission.

Back on Earth many of the planet's mechanized industries shut down. It doesn't take long for the TSA to realize what is going on, but before they can effectively react the AI has established processing plants that have yet to show their true purpose. Initially it was believed that it would manufacture AI controlled robots, but the AI had a much worse fate for mankind. Scattered reports of disfigured people assaulting and killing others begin to surface. Several people were processed in the recently established plants where they were implanted with crudely made prosthetic limbs and weapons. Those known later as the "Processed" remain conscious while the AI controls their bodies to kill and capture more bodies for processing.

Things heat up rather quickly, and you as the main character find yourself rudely awoken by a crying woman breaking into your home. This woman has had her arms and legs replaced, although she keeps yelling at you to "Get away from me, please!". As you spot the woman in your living room she begins to cry and scream as her body grabs your dog and kills him. Left with no way to defend yourself you must find a way to escape your home and flee to wherever you can. Upon leaving your home you'll notice screaming in your neighbors home. A brief FMV will play explaining that Mr. Dobbs is a worker at the local vehicle manufacture. You hear the screaming of Mr. Dobb's wife and a baby's cries. The FMV marks one of the most disturbing scenes of the game. You will see Mr. Dobbs' AI controlled body killing his wife as he consciously listens to her pleas for him to stop. After the wife is killed the camera turns to the baby where Mr. Dobbs begs the AI not to make him do it, and the FMV quickly cuts off putting you back into control over your own body. You can't hang around, as the aforementioned female that killed your dog is now hot on your tail.

So yes, as you have probably guessed this is a very very disturbing game, and yes it is of the survival horror genre. Throughout the game you will need to kill some of these poor enslaved people. Some will beg you not to kill them, others will beg you to end their suffering. Later in the game TSA researchers determine that it is impossible to restore a processed human to their normal selves without killing them. At that point in the game you've found your way to a TSA/Military controlled zone where you begin to do tasks to eventually stop the AI invasion. Not sure how I'd end the game, though. Not sure whether I'd want it to have a positive ending or not. Anyways I just thought I'd share the idea with fellow forum members.
I

well I'll give you props for going out of your way to disturb the lesser mind of the unsavvy gamer though I assure you the moral and psychological pains would be lost on me. I really just get this feeling that no matter how well designed the concept and story is that it would be crushed by the realities of the market and turn into a samey shooter with creepy enemies and a slight RPG element to it, ala Dead Space. But this does not mean that I think you have a bad idea; if you released this game it would probably be on my shelf no later than a week after the release date.
As for me, I too have an idea for a 'survival horror' title that, in my own mind in the middle of the night as I lay in bed, could scare the shit out of me titled Lost Autumn. I would explain it here but I already know that I would be greeted with endless cries of SILENT HILL 2 RIPOFF!

Alright, this game idea sounds awesome. Action, horror, Sci-Fi bloodbaths; it got everything!

On a side note, I'd be afraid to work in a moral choice system. Personally i can't see how working in choices of "should i kill this person humanely or as brutally as possible?" would help the horror aspect of the game. The horror would come from being forced to kill someone to complete your mission, regardless of morality; that's the kind of decision would stick with you

but hey, thats just me

I like this idea, especially if whilst you are attacking them they were shouting how sorry they were for attacking you, crying, and screaming pleas for sweet death.

You've got a great idea here, but I have to say you should have gotten it patented before you posted it onto a public forum. Now any unscrupulous fellow could waltz in, suggest a light improvement to seem not suspicious, point out the flaw in not patenting to throw off any would-be detectives, and then escape with your idea firmly copy and pasted into an e-mail to every developer under the western sun.

Now if you excuse me, I have an unrelated e-mail to send.

Ciao, plebs.

I quite like that.. Especially the disturbing scene. I don't think the ending to the game should be positive. Maybe you could change the characters around. So, you could play a guy who's hiding in his house with his family trying to work out how they're all going to survive... Or a hobo waking up hungover to all of this stuff happening around him. Could be a bit like a JJ Abrams game where all the characters cross paths.
I second this. That would be an awesome game.

Sounds like it could be a great game. Would the majority of the game be spent fighting back, or just on the run trying to survive?

Both possibly. If anything I'd have the player be given the choice to either sneak his way through the missions, kill them all ruthlessly or do a mix of both. I haven't thought to much about gameplay, but I'd reckon that it'd have a bit of a Dead Rising type aspect where almost anything can become a weapon.

As this is a survival horror game, I presume actually managing to kill something will be a big deal rather than just mowing down enemies.

I suppose at the beginning of the game you could select what kind of person you were during your normal life. Depending on what you pick you'll have different skill sets and as such the gameplay style changes. Picking one style could have you be able to use your environment more effectively allowing you to block and barricade doors, but you wouldn't be able to use many weapons at all. Picking a more action oriented profession (military or police) would have you be able to fight your way through more effectively, but you would lack the critical thinking to effectively avoid combat in many situations. You'd have your weapons and that's about it.
