I've been thinking on it a lot, and come to the realization that for me the most fun games are not the games themselves, but meta games that I create within the games for myself.

A Meta Game

For instance, back in the day my brother and a friend of mine would get together and play super smash brothers together, but instead of killing each other we would create miniature economies, trading items back and forth. Someone would break the rules and we would always have legal battles to decide whether or not their infraction of the rules was or was not justified, and usually someone got punished. It was so much more fun than mindlessly sitting around killing people.

Griefing is a Meta Game too

It's been a while since I've played any meta games that were that much fun. The only meta game I get to play anymore is when my team of friends and I (and you're free to hate me for what I'm about to admit to doing) grief people. It may not seem like a meta game at first, but it actually is. One of our favorite griefing methods, for instance, involves having one too many people on our team on Halo. The extra person gets shipped to the other team, and it is their goal to annoy the other team so much that they kill them and the player can boot them. In this meta game instead of playing for who can score the most kills, the score is decided by who can get the most team mates booted.

TL:DR? Anyways, I've been thinking that I'd like to really get back into meta gaming, and what better way to get fun ideas for meta games than asking you, members of the Escapist. What sorts of meta games do you like to play? Do you have any ideas for fun meta games? I'm looking for good ideas here, cause I'd like to play more fun meta games.
