As I've done with every MGS, I've reflected on my time with the 4th installment. This time, though, it was completely different. One of the best parts of any Metal Gear game was to finish the game, then sit comatose on the couch, trying to piece it all together. Somehow that felt more rewarding than holding up a million Ends, when I was able to figure out certain unexplained events from inference.
The way MGS4 let me down was by explaining everything at once. Even the end of the game was without a single loose end, only letting me process the information, instead of trying to learn from it. I would play MGS games for days on multiple play throughs just to try to get something I missed, so I could piece the mystery for myself. Now, every time I play another MGS game, the little id behind me is reminding me of every character's betrayal or previously secret future.
Maybe I'm just a little naïve, but I want to back to when I didn't know who formed the Patriots.
