well they just confirmed MGS5 is in the works:
Payton: Metal Gear Solid 5 - Prequel to Solid Snake [http://www.psbeyond.com/news/Payton-Metal-Gear-Solid-5-Prequel-to-Solid-Snake.666.html]
When quizzed about MGS4 and the series' future, Payton explained: "There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game. But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story. That's all."
and as a side note Konami has just trademarked the title MGS:Existence, most likely the expanded version of MGS 4 so not to much excitement there.

It's not just the "final snake chapter" but "the final MGS game Kojima will work on" as well.

...and could you really expand on the MGS4 storyline? That was the magnum opus of fanservice and closure to the story. Will we see "Adult Sunny", "Old Otacon" and "Dead Campbell"?

i doubt that metal gear is done, just snakes story has ended and it's time to move on to another person...such as Raiden, i actually liked him in mgs4.

I've heard that before. Twice.

Pleas tell me I'm wrong here. But wasn't the majority of MGS4 cutscenes? The day it came out I went over next door to watch my friend play it on his PS3 and we were killjoyed by the amount of dialog.

So wouldn't it make more sense if the next MGS installment was a movie?

I love the idea of mgs 5, but if it is a terrible game then it wouldn't do mgs 1-4 any justice.

Onimusha 3 was "The Last in the Nobunaga Saga"

and the next Onimusha sucked ass.

so maybe MGS5 will also fall into that same trap.

No, I was told that it is the last Metal Gear Solid game. It is still Solid. And a prequel to Solid Snake, without Solid Snake? Oh, I really loved Big Boss. And to be honest, I liked Big Boss more than Solid Snake. So, if a new game with Big Boss comes out, I will be very happy.

If it wasn't for the epilogue sequence cutscene (but hey, that's the end scene, so who cares?) I'd say there's an even amount of both gameplay and dialog. Unless you speed run through the entire thing on playthrough one.

My feelings exactly. I want to see more of Big Boss in his prime. MGS3, after all probably was my favorite of the series, but I don't know were/when it could be set.

No, the majority of Eternal Sonata was cutscenes, at least MGS actually lets you play for more than 5 minutes.

Raiden was completely badass in MGS4, although with all his implants gone, he'd probably be pushed back to whiny, little girl again.

Well you have from MGS Portable Ops (which was late 60s or early 70s) to the year 1995 (Metal Gear 1) to have a game with Big Boss.

However as has been said before this now marks the third time we've heard "last Metal Gear Solid game" and "Last Metal Gear Solid game that Kojima works on"

And I gotta be honest...I wasn't wowed by 4 so I have low hopes for 5.

It really has lost all meaning by this point.
