Now, the question becomes: Why was the title changed? If Peace Walker is an "MGS5-class game," why isn't it Metal Gear Solid 5 anymore?
If I recall correctly, this game is about the building of Outer Heaven, the first one. They probably took out the number because the main Metal Gear Solid series was about the Patriots and Les Enfant Terribles. Where as this one is just expanding on what happened before the original Metal Gear game.

Probably has some intricate and complex backstory that Kojima himself gets confused about. If thats the case then lesser men like us would have our heads explode trying to figure it out.
Actually, compared to the rest of the MGS series, the plot is simple as hell. and that is a very good thing.

Probably doesn't contribute enough to the story. Just fills in an area where the game explained it, but now we're going into detail. Kind of like Portable Ops.
Thats what I saw it as.

Also, no offense to the PSP, but, you cannot really do a proper, long-immersive game on a handheld. Its really for smaller periods of time
Actually, yes you can. This is one of those games. I have clocked in over seventy hours on Peace Walker, that's longer than I've spent on any console game in a long, Long time.

Possibly because, like MGS3, there are no actual Metal Gears in the game, and this time around Kojima thought it would be silly to include them in the name?

Wait. Kojima... silly... There's a flaw in my logic here.
Actually, there are Metal Gears. Metal Gear Zeke.
