I have nothing against the iPhone personally but how come videogame developers are seriously trying to advertise it as a serious videogame console.
I say serious because the iPhone has gotten numerous noticeable games.

The latest addition to Apples iPhone began with a mysterious clueless teaser hyping up the Metal Gear Solid franchaise for an unknown console:

Many gaming sites argued countless hours in forums, articles and podcasts what this teaser-trailer could possibly mean. Many people argued that this might be the the MGS incarnation for the Xbox360. Well... It turns out the game was nothing but a point-and-click shooter - remeniscant of old 2D shooters that already existed before the SNES... for the iPhone

I can't understand why they are even bothering with this. I played games like this [http://klov.com/images/11/1181242139174.png] for the Neo Geo console 20 years ago and to even try hyping it up in this manner is just extremely stupid. Why even waste time glorifying a Duck-Hunt-with-your-finger-clone?

Now, you might say that I'm unfairly judging its game by the cover.
Well, a recent review [http://wireless.ign.com/articles/964/964120p1.html] of the game by IGN justifies my opinion.
The game has 12 levels in total and can be breezed through in less than an hour.

This is a Metal Gear game in name only. -IGN
My question is, why do they even bother with high-profile games on the iPhone?!
Undoubtly game developers are pushing games to it in a manner that is different from what was on the say Nokia N-Gage. Obviously they are quite serious about trying to make innovative games for it and somehow market it as a game console yet thinking that the iPhone can measure up to the Sony PSP or the Nintendo DS is just utterly rediculous. Not to even mention that the iPhone isn't popular in Europe and it's sold tremendously poor [http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/news.phtml/22606/23630/softbank-free-reduced-apple-iphones.phtml] in Japan.
So why do they even bother pushing the iPhone as a serious handheld console?

I wouldn't complain about the length. You know, it's a game for cellphones, and even if it had been longer, it would just consist of more of the same gameplay, maybe only with changed backgrounds.
Why? Money, most obviously. People who spend several hundred Euros on a fucking mobile phone are most definetly rich enough to buy games, and probably so rich they can even buy mediocre ones. It's just a shame they had to slap the name of one of the most important franchises in gaming history on it :/

They simply want to branch Metal Gear out to a wider audience. That's the nature of the video game business.Me being a BIG Metal Gear fan it saddens me to see it but I can understand why.

The reason the iPhone is being considered a serious gaming platform is because it is the only mobile gaming device that has an encouraged home developer base. There are over 6000 games out for it at the moment, many of them are clones yes but they were all developed by individuals at home.

iPhone is a serious gaming platform - but for laid back, casual gaming. Everyone can at least agree that its got much better software on it than most the other phones currently around.

Hmm, I think that this actually could be alright.

It's got a good idea behind it, and the Iphone I have heard has decent Memory and such.
Does anybody know if Kojima is returning?

(I know he said that MGS4 would be his last MGS game, but you know what he's like)
