Ok, what the fuck? I just bought the game, on disk, put it in my computer and it opened up Steam. I put my keycode in and then it starts DOWNLOADING THE FUCKING FILES? I have it on a cunting disk! And it won't even start the download on steam. What do I do? Someone help a steam-tard please.

EDIT: Oh it started now. And it's going to take 4 HOURS? Excuse my rage here BUT I BOUGHT THE FUCKING DISK!? I'm doing something wrong, aren't I?

Further EDIT: No. I'm not trying to flame people/steam. I'm just angry that I have to wait such a retarded amount of time and that I was given no choice in the matter. I am angry yes, but I'm not trying to cause fights.

Turns out Steam is a bag of shit. The recent frontend update decided to delete all my games, so I had to download them all again.

You may be able to force it to install from the disc by stopping the download and carrying on with the disc installer.

Or buy the Xbox version, no Steam bollocks there.

Game's pretty good though, remember to set all the dialog into Russian for maximum atmosphere (and confusion, as only the story critical dialog is subtitled).

It's probably patching. Otherwise, I can't help you. Maybe try installing it with Steam in offline mode?

No xbox, I'm not really much of a gamer, I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Civ. Never had to even look at Steam. But from what I've seen. It really is a bag-o-wank.

I have the game as well, it needs Steam to be online to install.

Run the actual disk. Then it will install.

You just put in the code in to Steam, what were you expecting?

Yeah. Offline isn't an option. I just don't get it. When I buy it on disk I want to be able to play it when I install it. 4 hours is taking the piss. It's all this anti-piracy shit. It only ever hurts the people who buy the actual game.

When looking for help on google I found Razor1991 has already torrented it bypassing the Steam shit. It's all so fucking pointless.

I didn't get an option. I put the disk in. pressed install and it opened Steam. Did nothing else until I put the code in.

Trust me, it's worth the wait. Check every corner in the game and remember, the Stealth Suit isn't needed to be stealthy; it's needed to be clumsy.

Edit: This post isn't nearly helpful enough. The game runs through Steamworks. The disk is just there for confirmation. You get a digital download no matter what.

...This upsets me. Greatly. I paid £30 for something utterly pointless then? Christ I will write angry letters/emails for this.

Thanks though. Guess I'll go for a run or watch some porn or do something with my life while I wait.

You can still install it with a disk, i'm not sure how (differs from game to game).
And I personally never had problems with steam, maybe instead of complaining try looking for an installer on the disk using windows explorer?

You paid thirty bucks for a perfectly good game. It runs through Steam, the only working DRM system archetype that has ever worked. I don't see the issue anymore.

I don't think it's so much that the game requires download, it's that it says absolutely nothing about it on the box. That pissed me off, I figured I'd be able to put the disk in and play.

I call bullshit. Total bullshit.

Because, as I've said. While looking for help to get it to install, I found Razor1911 have already cracked and torrented it. Google "Help with installing Metro 2033" and it's one of the top results.

Thus, Steam isn't the only working DRM. Because there is none.

I know. Now I have a 3 and a half hour wait to play the fucking thing.

Again, as I said, the box says nothing about requiring online activation/installation. Had they put something on the box, this wouldn't be an issue.

I'm not a retard. I wouldn't just come complaining if I hadn't done some of my own leg work. If you read the thread you'd see I also looked around google for some help too.

This has been eyeopening. I won't buy copies of games that are on Steam from now on. Ofcource there might be games that don't require the download, but just to be sure. This is just plane stupid.

Isn't there a binary you can find in the files to just run it off the disk?
Sorry, minor tech support is all I can provide.

You and me both. My first interaction with Steam has, unfortunately, been negative. But with the boat I'm apparently in, what can you do eh?

To make a bit of a discussion here, other than the rants of a mad man, I'd like to ask people if they'd consider pirating it, since it skips all of this bullshit and runs like normal?

Of course, the counter argument is how long you'd be waiting for the torrent.
