Oh yeah, Im all for something new to the Prime series. Sure Corruption wrapped everything up rather nicely, but I still think that they could do so much more with it. And the hidden ending of Corruption made me want there to be something else. So to Retro if you do happen to make another Metroid game, more power to you.
Corruption wrapped up everything as far as events pre-Super Metroid, there's still a lot of stuff after Super Metroid to consider (and after Metroid Fusion even, given the way that game ended).

Although it's not very deep, there is a certain charm to the story and mythos of the Metroid series that, when it is explored, comes out very nice.

Thats what I meant, everything up to that point with the Prime series(which would actually be pre-Metroid II). And thats another thing Id like to see, an actual continuation of the series after Fusion. Im dieing to see what happens with Samus after her actions on the BSL.

Simple at its surface but has a huge amount of content if you happen to delve just a little bit deeper. So therefore I thank Rare for giving us the scan visor and log entries.
You mean Retro.

And yeah, I completely brain-farted on saying Metroid II, because I saw Super Metroid in the news story.

Well it's not like he can claim all games henceforth that wish to carry 'Metroid' in the title, and the succes of any Prime games means his regular Metroid games become more frequent because of the universal love of Metroid the world should have, hence he gets more work, hence he gets more money.

Why is that guy listed as the creator of Metroid? I'm pretty sure that was Gunpei Yokoi (as also mentioned by someone earlier in this thread), who died several years ago.

Honestly I prefer the original Prime to Prime 3.

"With regards to the Prime series, if the team at Retro comes up with an idea that does bring a sequel to the series to fruition, I by all means encourage them to do that," Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto said. "But I'm not directly involved with the Prime games. In terms of the Metroid series stories that I've told, the games that I've been involved in, I started with the NES Metroid and took it through Fusion."
Ouch!!

So basically he's saying that he couldn't give a shit about Retro, but if they find a way to make Nintendo some money, then sure why not. Kind of a cold statement considering that they give Nintendo a couple of their better selling games on the Game Cube and Wii. Not to mention doing the impossible by making a Metroid FPS title work.

Also, who said that the "Prime" series has to continue? Couldn't they do an FPS Metroid title that... you know... DOESN'T have "Prime" in the title?

Am I the only one who thinks that a Prime-style remake or sequel of Fusion would be amazing? I really hope the series heads in that direction.

Before I post I want to make it clear that I do enjoy the Metroid series and find the Prime series to be one of my favorite groups of games in history. But It's becoming a bit too drawn out and will begin to find the problem of a convoluted timeline leaving players confused as to what is and isn't applicable. And with Metroid: Other M, from what it sounds like it sounds like it would be best to not be a Metroid game but instead another completely new game/series. The same goes for a possible Prime series sequel. It might go well, but then again it might work best to instead be a completely different series all together. Again I'm not saying that the Metroid games are bad and boring, but it's getting to a point where it's predictable.

While I was initially a little worried about the new 'direction' this Metroid: Other M was taking, it turns out through interviews and previews that it's not 100% action and it's not close to a Ninja Gaiden clone.

Basically, don't worry: Exploration and atmosphere still exists in the game. It's likely they just showed off all the action-ey stuff to make the trailer exciting - because its difficult to make exploration exciting.

I'm still playing through Metroid Prime 3 and I'm anticipating the Metroid Prime Trilogy in August so I can play through 1 and 2. Should be a rather epic adventure.

Finally, for those worried about Team Ninja, do note that most of the employees that made the ridiculous pervy games have moved on. Also, note in the trailer the split second you see adult Samus in Zero Suit - she looks as she does in Brawl. She's 'shapely', but not ridiculous.

But will it reveal Samus' workout routine? Because I really want to know her fitness secrets.
I don't know that much about the Metroid lore but I think Samus was born that way. Something about her Chozo blood or something that makes her extremely athletic.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption currently holds the title of best game ever made ever, Retro just kept getting better so another game from them would be marvelous.

I am kinda nervous about team ninja what with them being the makers of Ninja Gaiden, (Is it Gay-den or guy-den?) a game about carving everything you see a new one and Dead or alive a game about scantily clad women beating each other up. I don't want to sit through a scene where Samus carves up a million people while in her underwear. Metroid is about subtlety pacing and exploration, things I am not sure team ninja gets, it is basically akin to being a rat in a maze with electrified fences instead of walls and several cats in certain parts of said maze.
I'm with you all the way.

"Other M" looks to me like a collection of odd minigames featuring Samus (kinda like that pinball spinoff they did) as well as the classic, over-the-top, nonsensical action that Team Ninja is only really capable of producing.

I'm worried about what this will do to the integrity of the Metroid franchise, which has always had a pretty serious reputation...something gamers could approach with a straight face.
Other M's inclusion of dialogue (something that was expertly handled in MP3) is also risky since now it's in Japanese hands...and they're pretty infamous for the awkwardly played-out drama they write.

Actually, Metroid is the only Nintendo franchise that I can think of which actually has a straightforward, simple timeline. Mario pretty much has none, and the Zelda one is so convoluted that not even the creators can agree on it. Having played every Metroid game, though, I'm impressed at how uncharacteristically (for Nintendo) consistent the timeline is. While the games aren't in chronological order, which can lead to confusion, it's no worse than that. (Incidentally, the chronological order of the games is Metroid/Zero Mission-->Prime Trilogy-->Metroid 2-->Super Metroid-->Other M-->Fusion)

As for your second point, I'm not so sure. The story of Samus still has a lot of ground to cover, in my eyes. There's Samus' past (which has been covered in the e-manga but I'd rather see it gameised), her relationship with Adam Malkovich (which will be explored in Other M) and of course the aftermath of Fusion. If they want, Nintendo could make this last for another three games at least. And, this being Nintendo, you know they will.

She was raised by Chozo after a Space Pirate raid destroyed the colony on which she had spent her early years. I believe she was about 4 at the time. Being human, she couldn't survive in the atmosphere of Zebes, they had to infuse her with Chozo blood, which, combined with an extreme training regimen, turned her into the highly athletic individual she is in the games.

The story is going to play a big part! Interesting human appeal! This is not the Metroid I am used to but I hope it turns out good. There is no bad Metroid game at the moment so can't wait.

Other M looks like a Fusion sequel right now, they have Adam Malkovich right in the trailer.

I don't care what Nintendo does with the Wii at this point, I'd just like to see a sidescrolling Metroid on the DS. It worked for Mario!

I adore the Prime series but the third one wrapped up the trilogy nicely (apart from the bit at the end of the 100% ending) so I'd like a new storyline please. And I don't want it to be Prime 4 in everything but name.

A good start would be to replace save stations with recharge stations and add a save anywhere feature. Only being able to save at specific spots annoys the hell of out me.

EDIT: Metroid Prime > Metroid Prime 2 > Metroid Prime 3 for the record.
