I appear to be going on a huge Metroid trip as of late, I've been playing through Corruption and loving it. The combat and exploration is addicting. I would like to move on to other Metroid games, which ones would you consider?

I played through most of Prime, but got real bored when they told me to search for the Chozo artifacts, which is a real shame because I found out that a Ridley battle comes right afterward.

All of them , up till Other M , they really and fun games . I could see why you got bored with prime , but nevertheless you should persevere . Prime 2 is tough as nails but a great game and prime 3 is the only game on the wii i find extrodanary ( by wii standards of course)

I would also suggest the gba games , metroid fusion isan awsome tribute to oldschool metroid games .

Try to avoid the DS metroid game is it pretty bad and repettitive.

If you have yet to play Super Metroid, then GO PLAY NAO!!!

Seriously, that game is a radiant example of polish, gameplay, atmosphere, and exploration. It's so well put together, and so engrossing. It's pretty much the epitome of the 2D Metroid games, and is still damn great fun even to this day.

After that, you should try Fusion. While more linear that previous installments, but still feels open ended enough to allow you to explore. It also did story in Metroid WELL, not that Other M bullshit. And the SA-X sections of the game are jam packed full of suspense, it's awesome.

Also Metroid Zero Mission is a good remake of the first game, just more refined and a little more expanded upon. The first Metroid is a little tough to play these days, hasn't aged as well so Zero mission is a pretty good re-imagining.

Super Metroid is a must. As is Zero Mission (which is basically Metroid remade like Super Metroid. :) )

Skip Other M, as others have said. I disagree with them about Fusion, though. It's the exact same crap as Other M, just in a 2D, linear setting (it was directed by the same director who made Other M such a wreck. He seems to want to destroy Samus and the Metroid series).

Cant really help im afraid as I have only played Metroid Prime (and a bit of MP2) to any extent but I would warn you that if you have never played Super Metroid you may not like it I tried it for the first time 4-5 weeks ago (I bought it ages ago second hand but never got it on release as it was always 10 pounds more expensive than everything else) and the controls have not aged well (although the graphics are still ok).

But if you can find it cheap its probably worth a go you may like it but dont get youre hopes up I found it a chore to try and play and gave up after a measly 3 hours and went onto Link to the Past instead.

I agrred with everyone above me but I would like to add if you got a DS than get Metroid Fuzion. That was a fun game as it capture the gameplay before Prime.

Fusion was a GBA game so you don't need a DS if you want to inflict it on yourself. ;)

Yep, Super Metroid is pretty much the definitive Metroid game on all fronts. The only thing I would say it's lacking is difficulty, but it's very much the sort of game where you can easily make your own difficulty so that's not as damning a complaint as it could be.

If there's one Metroid game everyone should play, even if they don't otherwise like the series or genre, it's Super Metroid.

Personally, I'd also recommend trying out the first Metroid for the NES if only as a curiousity piece and a bit of game design theory.

In all fairness, you sound like someone like me who is coming at it from years of the experience. The first time through, for me at least, there was no gamefaqs or youtube, so it was a lot harder. :)

Hmm... I suppose my experience came from playing through Metroid 1 and 2 at release, as well as NES titles like Bionic Commando and Strider. I had just personally built up enough understanding of the genre that when presented with a title that actually did things like give you a map with marked POIs and had "tutorial" sections on how to use new items, it was actually a step backwards (challenge wise, not quality of play wise)

I would say all of them except Fusion and Other M BUT and that's a big butt if you play them solely for the gameplay and could care less about the story you could play those 2 as well

I found Other M to be fine except the story.
Same here, but even the story isn't too bad, just different. I'm not sure if that's good, or bad thing, but I like how they actually gave her a persona, even if she is a bit melodramatic (a tiny under statement there but whatever).

Finish Metroid prime, the artifacts aren't hard to find at all, just scan the clues, they are really easy to figure out, and if you are too lazy you could just look them up. Last boss fight is awesome.

Then get Prime two, I still have beaten it because the final boss fight is broken and unplayable with the gamecube controls. Both are really fun.

I'd say all of them except hunters, I don't really know anything of Other M as I have not played it but Hunters was pretty bad, and Metroid Prime Pinball is included in that list, seriously that game is AWESOME!!!

I'm pretty sure the original was the best, there wasn't really anything like it at the time. Sad to hear you gave it up. Though, the third did come close, I thought.

You should really give the original and the second a go. Sure, they've both dated, and it takes a little while to get into them, but they're both worth it, at least I think so. The second in particular I find strangely fascinating. There's a very primitive use of atmosphere that draws you in. Though I am biased, Super Metroid was the reason I really got into gaming.

I only gave up because it just got to a point where it got boring, and I was younger and dumber at the time, so I kind of left it, I really regret it, however my friend has the Wii versions of all three so maybe I'll "borrow" Prime 1 and 2, and finish them.

Do give them a go. Opinion seems rather divided on Prime 2, not in that it's a bad game, on whether it's better or worse than the original. I need to play that game again, not sure what to think myself. It's certainly nowhere near as accessible as the original Prime, so it's a little tough to get into, has some fantastic moments however.

At the end of the day, they're all great games. Except for Other M.
