MGSV Pre-order scummy?

So, I was browsing along Steam, as one of this community is want to do. Then, I noticed something interesting. The pre-order bonus for Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain, is that you get Ground Zeroes for free. At first, this didn't really seem all that important or special. But then, I started to realize what is in my own opinion, a huge scumbag move from Konami (Shocker, I know). They chose to charge fans $39.99 for what essentially amounted to a pre-screening of the real game. Now, this would be fine if it weren't for the fact that now they're just giving it away for free.

You could rationalize that since Phantom Pain costs $60, it's really just GZ + PP = $60. But I guess that's just not the way I see it. I'm wondering if anybody else has felt this way about this little bit of news.

I never bought Ground Zeroes but will now be getting it for free. So I can't say that I'm pissed off about this :p

Honestly, I would never ever spend $40 for a game that only lasts you a few hours. I watched user reviews to find out about that.

The scumbag move here isn't to include it with the pre-order. It's that they dared to release it at that price on its own.

I knew they would do that. It's one reason I never bought Ground Zeroes. However, I got it free from PSN, so now I don't even need this.

On the other hand, I haven't even preordered Phantom Pain. Konami has been so scummy and horrible that I can't really bring myself to support them at this point. With how they are apparently treating their employees. With how they are treating their IPs. With all the baffling decisions they seem to be making. I just don't know that I can buy a Konami game right now.

Which sucks as I love Metal Gear Solid. And I consider Kojima one of the few rock stars of the gaming industry. So the fact that Konami's actions have killed my excitement for the game to this extent is bad.

Fuck Konami!

Seriously? How could people not have predicted that GZ would end up being a pre-order bonus? Come on! I guess this is the reason gamers fall for stupid shit all the time. They don't think.

Again with not thinking. Do you know what's gonna happen if you don't buy MGS V? You won't be able to play it (unless you resort to the other method). That's it. It's literally the full extent of the consequences. It won't change Konami. It won't bring Kojima back. It won't change a god damn thing in the universe. It will simply save you $60 that you're probably going to spend on another game. Maybe you'll enjoy it more than MGS though. I don't know. But you're making this decision just so you can have a false sense of moral superiority for a while. To convince yourself that you're a good person. Never mind the fact that at least one of the items in your possessions was probably made by a child in terrible working conditions in a country where they can't even fight for their rights, unlike Japan. Or maybe by someone who's killed himself or herself since. Nevermind the fact that the entire western civilization was built and is being sustained largely on blood and sweat of cheap labour overseas. But that's out of sight and out of mind. And every time you use a vehicle that uses gasoline you're supporting the shittiest people on the planet responsible for countless deaths. But hey, that's out of your control, right?

You don't need to concern yourself with all that. It's too much to wrap your head around. Who cares how the real world works? Just keep thinking that you're this amazing moral person making a morally right decision by refusing to buy a video game. Jesus fuckin' Christ.

Wow. Jensen, I often agree with you in your posts. But, you're seriously making a bunch of assumptions. And you know what they say about that...

I never said I thought me not buying the game would hurt Konami. I know it won't. Unless plenty of other people feel the same way, they won't even notice or care. But who knows? Maybe others agree with me?

But here's the rub. If I really wanted to buy the game, I would. In fact, I will buy the game regardless of Konami's actions if I want to buy it. I may even buy it used if I'm so insistent that Konami not get any money from me. No, my biggest problem is that with all the negative things I have heard about Konami, it has hurt my desire to purchase a Konami game at all. I'm not trying to fix Konami. I'm not trying to save Kojima (he's probably better off now, anyway). No, I just don't desire to buy any game made by this publisher. That's it.

Honestly, it's more like how I don't drink Coke because I don't like the taste. My opinion of the company has been hurt too much and that has tainted my view of their product. I'm not even excited for one of the biggest games of the year. A game I was looking forward to a few months ago, I could take or leave. Even if I purchased it (or got it as a gift) I still may not feel like playing it due to lack of enthusiasm. That's how poorly I view the company.

On top of that, Ground Zeroes left a bad taste in my mouth. I got it free and was pissed how short it actually was. If I had actually paid for it, I would have been livid. You can literally complete the game easily in 20 minutes or play around and finish it in an hour. I'm literally waiting for the Metal Gear pachinko machine. Think they'll name it slotvengeance?

And frankly, you're trying to portray me as some idiot kid, but your post only makes you seem immature. Insults and degradation don't do you or your arguments any favors. But keep on being edgy and mature if you like.

Anyway, I'm gonna end this before I start playing Devil's Advocate.

You paid 40$ for a demo. Of course it's bundled inside MGSV, this is Konami we're talking about. Screwing over paying customers was always going to be their last hurrah in home gaming.

Releasing a paid demo for a game isn't all that surprising, since Capcom did it first. And people bought it.

Oh you don't know the half of it. I was smoking an e-cig and listening to metalcore while I was typing.
Not really. I hate both if that wasn't clear.

Sorry man. Your post just came across like one of THOSE and I was already on edge.

At this point in time, I'd say people can assume whatever they want about Konami, namely because Konami's reputation is so low that no number of false accusations could possibly make it any worse. Did you know Konami is planning to use the funds from their Pachinko machines to build their own Death Star so that they can extort the world for cash? And don't get me started on Konami's secret "Hitler was Right" fund.

By noon tomorrow, this will be picked up by 3 game sites, 45 YouTube channels, and make certain documents as evidence of collusion.

It's also completely false. Konami isn't building a Death Star, they're building a...oh, crap, I can't disclose that information.

Do you think this could end up creating a KonamiFacts.com, turning Konami into some sort of memetic anti-Chuck Norris?

Unfortunately, the role of the anti-Chuck Norris has already been taken by Chuck Norris the human being.

Maybe an anti-Snopes?

I think that would be substantially awesome.

The difference being the real Chuck Norris isn't funny. Konami Facts are.

Perhaps. Anyway, I couldn't wait to find out so I just started one in the Forum Games section.

This is true. It was profoundly disappointing when Chuck the Human stopped being a clown in TotalGym (R) commercials, and started entering the world of politics, and revealed to all of us, that he is in fact, not actually joking.

Then again, Snopes is still funny, while I haven't laughed at a Chuck Norris joke that didn't involve him being owned by Bruce Lee in a long time.

That is awesome.

Because I haven't really posted OT: The problem with this isn't what they're doing now, it's what they did then. MGS: GZ was massively overpriced. At best, it's a gameplay and tech demo. That they asked that much for it is appalling. And it really wasn't that clear unless you saw the reviews. Especially given all the media fawning over the graphics and the stealth options, all the videos messing around with it, instead of being genuinely critical of the price. Yes it is fun to muck around with. But it is not a sandbox, and it doesn't have that much content in it.

I picked it up for $5 in a Steam sale, and I'm content with what I got out of it. But if I'd paid launch price, I would be livid.

I don't mind them giving it away for free, in fact, it makes sense, the game doesn't do much on its own. And it wouldn't matter had they not so overcharged their core fans, the people who'd go for the game like that. I don't think they did anything wrong at present, it's a nice incentive, it's a nice thing to give away. It's absurd that they ever asked that much.

I just wish that everyone I rescued from the prison camp hadn't died in a horrible jeep accident. Too many hostages.

Honestly, I never really was amused by Chuck Norris facts, either. But still. They're funnier than the person.

The only funny thing about the person is my reaction to him. Watching a man trying to laugh and vomit simultaneously has brought many a tear to the eye of a humble bystander.

Wow, Chuck can't even rap. No verbosity at all. He could have sung his lines, but he can't hold tone for shit (Boom! Vocal and body building burn!).

I think that's a fairly common reaction, though.

I was also kind of amused by the number of people who were upset or angry with the Nostalgia Critic/Film Brain video about one of his movies. And then a little scared.

In chuck's defense, if you saw a President come back from the dead and start rapping, you'd probably lose your cool, too. I mean, he's only human. Unlike Segata Sanshiro.
