Mice and the Problems They Always Have

So recently I've bought a new mouse. I decided to get one that has a cord. The last mouse I had was a wireless laser mouse and served me well for quite some time. However the thing chewed through batteries. I had to buy a new pack (usually about 8 or 12) a month. Changing the batteries in the thing once every four to six days sucked horribly. Not to mention when I'd run out of batteries. Eventually the scroll wheel broke off from its attach points inside the mouse and became non-functional.

The only backup mouse I had was had a ball, said ball was broken and didn't spin the way it was supposed to because it didn't sit right in the mouse. (Make all the jokes you like, I know you want to.)

So this new mouse I've bought was quite nice the first week I had it. It has a couple extra buttons that allow you to change it's sensitivity (not that I need them) and is corded so I don't have to worry about battery life. However just yesterday the scroll wheel on this mouse broke. It no longer scrolls but the middle mouse button still functions.

My question is, do other people frequently have problems with their mice? Do you know of any good, cheap mice that will last for at least a year? If you've not had any problems maybe you could recommend something to those of us that have had these problems.
