I knew Microsoft would charge more than what you see off the shelf, but more than double? Thats almost a new low.

Lose money on console sales, make money on accessories. The basic principle behind any electronics manufacturer, retailer, or repairer.

That's not really surprising. I'm just glad that they're letting us use normal USBs at all. That being said, this article doesn't seem that reliable.

There are probably plenty of people who will buy into the overpriced memory, especially if there are claims printed on the packaging that say the device will improve performance... regardless of it actually performing as advertised.
Still, I'm glad that they are officially acknowledging this use of the devices. Surprised they didn't try to team up with WD and charge three times as much for the USB drives instead of settling with SanDisk.

Yay! I can finally get all my saves of the HDD of my RRoDed, out of warranty and out of extended warranty for RRoD 360.

With my own flash drive of course, not these overpriced ones.

That is basically my opinion of the 360 USB flash drives.

well we might as well just do what the article says

Don't pay for this overpriced branding, because you can use a regular non-Microsoft USB drive, format it and make it work on your console. Total price? A hell of a lot cheaper.

This means I can buy a 50 Dollar Terrabyte flash drive, and use it as a hard drive?
Where the hell do you find a terrabyte flash drive?Mainly because I like the sound of that.

The Internet, I've also seen them at some electronic stores. Although I may have been exaggerating a bit when I said 50 dollars....

This is true. After a quick Google I have discovered that local stores are selling flash drives with 400 Gigs for far more than 50 dollars. I can only imagine how much the terrabyte drives cost.

so they're releasing their own, relatively expensive version of a product but making it so that you don't need to buy it. and the problem is?
They could sneak code in to the update that throttles speed and performance of the non-official medium. If you use it for playing games off I bet there will be a noticable difference, but if its just for backing up saved games then it may just take a few moments longer.

Big news, huge corporation rips off people to moronic to spend time finding out that the stuff they are buying could be bought elsewhere for half the price.

Meh no different then anything else in the world. Take a product, give it a popular brand name, double the price. Happens with nearly everything, I've stopped caring at this point. If someone is stupid enough to pay for the shiny label, that's their problem.

I could, but then I'd have to swap it in and out for different games. The old one only has 13GB of usable space, and with DLC and music and stuff, I've used 20GB on the new one.
U
(the old one is the original "20"GB hard drive. WTF happened to my other 7GB? The new one is the 120GB elite)

Double the regular price? Thats ridiculous! Come on. I mean selling it for a little more is pretty normal but DOUBLE! I think thats kind of ridiculous. It'll probably make some money...

But if there is something special about then that means the price is worth it then I guess that'd be okay. So is it an upgraded version of a USB drive or just a double priced normal USB drive?

due to a stupid set up on my computer i spent about six months playing crysis over a usb connection. even a modest throttling in speed shouldn't be a problem and i reckon the 'optimisation' that they're talking about is a preset file architecture so the 360 doesn't have to scan the usb stick every time.
The x360 doesnt have anywhere near the capabilities of todays PCs. Trying to play a fast paced fps off an unofficial will be next to impossible I wager.
