He may be referencing the connection of Europe and Asia, often called "Eurasia" and itself really a single continent.
But it's probably easier to insult than understand.
There's no indication of that assumption whilst I have cited the style in which the 'jokes' were made as backing up my reaction. If your assumption is correct the writing didn't make that clear and as such is still an issue.
And as far as me being insulting goes, I used the very credible stereotype of proud American ignorance to back up my point. If you consider yourself above that then congratulations on escaping the cliche and ignore me from here out.

Yes, because when Europeans insult America, it's all in good, casual fun. Calm the hell down, he wasn't trying to mortally offend anyone.
I've not attempted to defend bashing of American by Europeans, nor would I. Don't create a straw man to try to justify not liking my reaction to that poorly written post.
The "he didn't mean to appear knowingly ignorant to the point of insult" argument isn't one you can make on his behalf, you're not the writer and do not know his intention. Not intending to offend but doing so anyway does not render the person who offended innocent, what it means is that they need to take into account their mistake and make the effort not to be so foolish with weak jokes.
You assume offence where this is born more from sheer sickness at seeing the same tired cliche of knowing American ignorance wheeled out to justify not bothering to think before doing something potentially culturally insensitive.
I read it like I did because it does, in spite of your protest, reek of a very stereotypical but unfortunately genuine knowing lack of geographical knowledge on the part of Americans. Were it not such a regular thing to see an American online purporting proudly to know bugger all about the rest of the world the joke might have worked. Given the person who wrote it is working for a wage, the standard of writing and awareness of international viewership ought to be higher and taken into account. It wasn't.
