I'm thinking someone at Microsoft is a fan of anagrams. (
Xbox
One
X - XBOX)
Or, someone is a fan of palindromes but completely fails at the concept of making one.
Or, more likely, their marketing team were too unimaginative to think up a good name [footnote]Because fuck those design and engineering team nerds and their stupid "Scorpio" name. The fuck does that even mean? Dorks.[/footnote] so they asked some random jackass on Live to think of a name. Thus, in light of the limited mental capacity of the average Live user, we end up with a name that looks like a gamertag. It starts with an X and ends with an X.

So, the only "legit" complain people have is the name?
I mean, it IS a catastrophically stupid name. Right up there with
Battlefield 1 and
Horizon: Zero Dawn in the gilded halls of Things With Stupid Names. That said:
How about that absurd price tag that several analysts have said is too high for whats in it?
How about that it'll eventually create a rift between Xbox users, not unlike what the Expansion Pack did for the N64? Only worse this time 'round because of the prevalence of online play.
How about the fact that they've spent an ungodly amount of time and money making this thing but still can't be arsed to upgrade and improve their online service? (a service, I might add, that they still charge for)
How about that Microsoft spent their time on building a machine to compete with the PS4Pro at a technical level instead of competing in the one area they
needed to compete in: Exclusives people want to play.
There are plenty of complaints. It's just that people are laughing the loudest about the dumb name.
