At the people making any kind of fuss over this... LIFE is a great big joke. Nobody's getting out alive, and might as well have fun where you can. Want to know what's really poisoning things? The demand that everyone needs to be completely professional and well-behaved at all times. That people are losing or being denied jobs because they also enjoy taking time off to be irresponsible on weekends in a responsible place.

And on the whole feminism thing... As much as I'd love equality between the sexes, we're never going to have that as long as women continue to blow up at everything and everyone that has the POTENTIAL to be considered a 'slight' against them. Of course, there are plenty of women that aren't psychotically fragile. Those aren't a problem. There are plenty of people who have it worse, and don't have the priveledge of having a four-letter-word to throw around and have the world pretty much handed to them to fall back on, or ability to take everything from a man they swore to live forever with (A deal he made just as sincerely) on what amounts to a whim. (Seriously... of the siginificant numbers of divorce cases I've had to deal with, the only one where the woman didn't get full custody and at least 60% of the financial assets from the 'union' was the one where the woman frequently sexually abused her own children. Even the woman that became a cheating, abusive drunkard got pretty much everything from the guy she married.) Also... can we please get a cure for PMS? Men don't have the luxury of having a "I'm biologically compelled to be a psychopath once a month" card to excuse socially destructive behavior.

...It's still horribly inappropriate and unprofessional and Microsoft should (and no doubt would) have handled it in exactly the same way, by publicly apologizing and patching it out.
Dude I'm pretty sure that just smacking the coder upside the head and calling him a dickhead would be sufficent to deal with this.
You can't call him a 'dickhead'. That would be sexist!
No it wouldn't be. Sexism can only be applied to women

um well i'm sure the person responsible will be disciplined, assuming they even still work there. but the important thing here is making sure your customers are happy, and that means a public statement.

If you think 'big boobs' is sexist then you have to agree that 'big dicks' is sexist too. Or you're being a hypocrite.

And I don't think you would say 'big dicks' is sexist... because it isn't.

It's juvenile. There's a difference.

It's because of shit like this that the word 'sexism' has become a joke to many people. It's been over used and has begun to lose all impact.
Well i mean, boob and dick jokes both fall under the category of stereotypical male humor. But I really don't feel like explaining the differences between male and female sexuality and why these kinds of "jokes" tend to be a lot more amusing and titillating for men than they are for women, and why women might find gross expressions of male sexuality to be offensive.

Well, at least its not angry mothers demanding schools to remove dictionaries from library because it has the word 'oral sex' in it.

Translation, they're both sexist towards women, because they're juvenile and therefore male-centric... Gocha.
I never said it was juvenile. That was your word, not mine. It's "male" humor because men tend to fixate on those specific body parts sexually (yes, both breasts and the penis) far more than women do. It has nothing to do with men being "immature" or anything silly like that. It's an expression of typically male sexuality. That's what makes it sexist, in my opinion.

Evidently not. Quick, hide, people hate you for something you have no control over!

Really? This is that big of a deal? It is childish but it isn't that big of a deal. This is just silly.

I get that MS had to make a statement, that's standard procedure when stupid things like this happen. But Garnett's statement is beyond ridiculous. He's claiming that one immature joke among God only knows how many lines of code is indicative of a "coding is only for boys" attitude in ALL male programmers EVERYWHERE.

Excuse me? How the fucking hell can you possibly make a claim like that? Better yet, how the FUCK was it taken seriously for even a second?

Oh right, it's taken seriously because of an entirely different set of prejudices. The ones that claim that only buck toothed socially awkward men are into computers and programming, and since they can never have sex ever they react in an immature fashion to all things sexual.

That's the real bias going on here. One programmer being an idiot is not indicative of problem. Everyone ignoring the blatant insult to an entire profession due to the stereotypes associated with it? That's a problem.

And really? How many "guy kicked in the crotch" jokes do women get to laugh at on tv? I feel perfectly fine laughing at "big boobs" in l33tsp34k.
People laugh at "guy kicked in the crotch" jokes? Someone's been watching too much shit TV. As for the topic itself eh I can imagine there being an email from some PR worker to some IT worker along the lines of "For fucks sake grow up", hence the apology. I agree with the original blog post, there is that image of software companies and stuff like this doesn't help but as for the internet drama I honestly don't care. You can say pretty much anything on the internet and mortally offend some basement dweller.
