Yes, but it'll have a delay because the Xbone needs to process the image and sound signals first. At least this is how I understand it.
This way you can use the Xbone's multi tasking functionality (quickly switch to TV, Skype, whatever) and then switch back to the PS4's game stream. You could even play a game on the Xbone and then quickly switch to an already running game on the PS4, then switch back quickly to the Xbone game...

In theory it is interesting but in the end you can just hook up the PS4 to the TV via another HDMI port and switch between Xbone and PS4 via the TV's source selection. So it isn't really useful, it is just one consequence from the Xbone's "box to plug all other boxes into" design.

Whole seconds seems unlikely. Probably just a few milliseconds; probably quite a bit less than typical online game lag, actually. But lag is cumulative, and some games are very lag unfriendly (many fighting games and, rather ironically, FPS's).

I expect so. And if you're passing through non-interactive video - movies, TV, etc. - the lag will not be noticeable.

Or, y'know, you could plug them into separate ports in your TV and use the TV's PiP.

This reminds me of the days when you'd have a cable running from the wall into an NES brick, a Genesis brick, an SNES brick, a VCR brick and ending with the VCR cord's connection to the TV. Glad Microsoft is feeling nostalgic.

I too know of this kind of roundabout way to connect the gaming system to the TV.

Also, now I guess we know why the X-Box One looks so much like a VCR!

I know this will sound weird but go with me here.
If you plug in a PS4 into Xbone and dual-wield the machines, you could in theory have one game waiting in lobby for people or whatever and while waiting play on the other one, however you would always see the first ones screen and know when to grab a different controller, while still only having one TV. This could turn Xbone into a "i play while i waint my PS4 to load" type of deal. and is obviuosly very expensive inefficient way. but hey, people throw a lot of money for worse things.

But can you do PIP[footnote]Picture-In-Picture[/footnote] if you connect them to different plugs? because thats basically one[footnote]the only[/footnote] useful functionality there.

You could pretty much do the same thing for Atari Games with the Colecovision (Albeit, it was an expansion module, and not using HDMI cables). This is still very worrying to me.
