Microsoft Giving Away Xbox One Systems and Killer Instinct Roster

Select Xbox users are getting some freebies in time for the Xbox One's launch.

You get an Xbox One, you get an Xbox One, and you get an Xbox One -- well, not really. Some Microsoft MVPs have reported receiving a code that when redeemed entitles them to a free Xbox One. Other select Xbox users have received emails indicating they will receive a full roster of Killer Instinct characters. Microsoft's official Xbox Support Twitter accounts have legitimate. page. [http://mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/faq.aspx#20130204133744] In addition to a free Xbox One are free copies of Zoo Tycoon, Ryse: Son of Rome, Dead Rising 3, and Forza Motorsport 5 for Xbox One. There's also an Xbox Music pass and 12 months of Xbox Live Gold.

Some Xbox users received emails this morning indicating they will receive all of the characters of fighting game Killer Instinct. The launch title available through Xbox Live is a free download that comes with one character unlocked. Each of the seven other characters are $5 each or $20 for a bundle that unlocks those eight fighters plus two extra ones not initially available.

If you received one of these emails, as long as it is from [email protected], it should be legitimate. There will also be a message on your console. When asked if the Killer Instinct giveaway was random, the official Xbox Twitter account [https://twitter.com/Xbox/status/398110382067564544] replied, "We considered a variety of things like Gamerscore, LIVE tenure, & other factors in markets where #XboxOne is available."

Is that their new motto? Jump ahead? Seems unfinished though. "Jump ahead, stumble backwards." would be the proper slogan.

I got the email earlier today (for Killer Instict, if anyone was wondering). Can't complain, especially since this came completely out of the blue. Certainly going to get me to play Killer Instinct more than I might have as well :D

Huh, maybe I should look at my old Hotmail address and see if they were foolhardy enough to give me something...

Nope, just loads of junk as usual.

Well it's a nice for people to be rewarded for their good work. Not sure how many people actually have MVP status to see how much such a promotion might cost MS. Doubtful Sony would do something like that, but at this point I think MS has more ground to cover since the whole Xbox One reveal. Although many would like to say otherwise I can only see that as the main factor for this move. Congratz to the winners, enjoy your prizes.

They failed to sell them, so now thier giving it away in hopes that people would actually buy games at least.
And they are giving away a game that i wouldnt even turn on to begin with, but i guess fighter game fanatics may like it.

Uh, 525,000 pre-orders is a fail how?

Don't know why so many people really want one mind you. I've gone back to PC gaming simply because I'm tired of shelling out 50 bucks for a 3-year old game. I'd rather do steam sales and just use an Xbox360 controller converter for my PC (which is hooked up to my TV anyway).

Hopefully the SteamBox will be of some interest...but we'll see.

1. PS4 have sold more preorders in US, a palce where Xoox was always the dominating console.
2. Microsoft said they will outsell PS4 just out of sheer number of consoles they can lauch, meaning they manufactured more than PS4, yet they havent sold more, hence a lot of consoles there sitting that have failed to be sold.
3. Microsoft claimed it would sell millions at launch. Well, launch is coming close and we barely have half a million.
