I think Microsoft has gone too bold and far too quickly with the 'Xbone', the kind of things they're pulling would probably work on the next next generation of consoles when the technology has caught up and become more available and the digital market is more prominent.

As much as no one wants to admit it we are moving to a future where we're always online but we haven't got there yet apart from really on our phones also even though they have said relentlessly that the Kinect's information wont leave the console there is still a paranoia generated by the fact its always on and could easily be watching in secret.

Now the used game will never be a good idea and they obviously went for instant cash offered by publishers like EA and Ubisoft instead of thinking what was best for the consumer and playing the longer game of what will make their console appeal more and then hopefully sell more like Sony did. I understand that publishers want to make money of games its only fair but they could be discrete about it so as to not put people off from buying it, like EA did with dead space. At their press conference MS said that every game will be available for day one download and I believe that that will automatically help sell more copies in the first week, and they really shouldn't make enemies with retailers as its still probably their biggest place where they make revenue, even if they don't make a dime on used games they could maybe make a deal to see their used game sales to decided whether to make a sequel so that then maybe more people will by that having come across the first on the cheap. The other side to that is also that when a sequel is coming out many people like to go back and play the first game and if they don't have much money they can then have two games that month that they enjoyed instead of just one, and I definitely wouldn't want to pay full price for a game that's been out for two years.

So yeah just thought Id share my thoughts as well as the the rest of the internet right, but more as a proud 360 owner who has been hurt and neglected by the maniacs that run Microsoft, so we cant all be rich living in mansions and having 18 routers...

I think you summarized the Interwebz thoughts on the XB1 quite nicely except for this caveat^

It isn't simply that we're moving towards always online and digital, its that Microsoft isn't giving us any choice. Microsoft wants to move to a system where we're completely reliant on them but with no benefits. See, one of the reasons we like streaming video services like Netflix is because they're cheap and instant. But if I like a movie or a tv show enough, I can buy a physical copy on DVD or maybe a download for a lot more money. That's my copy and I can use it today, tomorrow or 20 years from now depending on whether or not I take care of it. Microsoft wants a system where we have the limits of online services and none of the benefits

But yeah, I feel ya. I owned a ps3 this gen and if the tables were turned, it would certainly suck to have to switch my preferred console. Let's just hope things improve during the next console cycle :)
