all i see so far is rebranding since IE11 could handle modern HTML as well.

and i say this while IE is sitting in "not responding" because there is a site i cannot access via firefox due to them being stupid.

Wonder how businesses will react to this. Not so well, from what I've heard. Loads of applications that only really 'work' on IE. Many people not knowing what to do now with IE on its way out.

At least a helpdesk's getting quite a bit more busy with this news.
If you are setting your system to only work with IE certificates you are building for failure anyway.

Thats there own fault for being shit at there jobs. I have seen it all when it comes to crappy old web apps, some that have not even been updated in the past 10 years and they expect them to keep working on modern browsers. The problem is the legacy of IEs dominance in the past , people did not develop to proper web standards and instead used activex or other nonsense to built there app.

In the current era of smartphones macs and tablets that is starting to end. HTML 5 is becoming more popular and more powerful every day.

I am glad microsoft have drawn a line in the sand and said no more.

As long as it can be fully uninstalled like IE can this is a good move :)

If you're gonna change it to be a Halo themed title, why not change it to SPARTAN? Y'know, the actual spelling for the project and soldier type from the franchise?

So it looks like Windows 10 is going to be an annual subscription. That would explain why they're fine with pirates upgrading to it for free.

Oh well, hopefully Google's OS will get some more fine tuning and public acceptance so it isn't only Apple that takes over when Windows 10 fails.

Unless windows 10 is reasonably priced, which I doubt.

Wait, wait wait- I can NOT be reading this right. "the default browser for all Windows 10 customers"? As in, you're not going to give us the option to not install it? As in, you're carrying out the EXACT SAME behavior that got you hit with an antitrust lawsuit fourteen years ago? An antitrust lawsuit you LOST? I'm glad you realize how absurd that lawsuit was, especially in light of what Apple gets away with, but how little attention do you think we're paying?
But they've been bundling IE with Windows despite that lawsuit for years (as you say, Apple do the same with Safari). All they needed to do was to ensure users were informed that other browsers were available.

Incidentally - it's a real shame that there are so many legions of IE haters, since it's actually been a pretty good browser for some time - much less resource hungry than Chrome, and just as compliant with web standards - and speaking as a web developer, IE's development tools are superior to both Chrome and Firefox. Everyone thinks it's crap, but it genuinely hasn't been crap since about IE9.

Is there really any way to 'reasonably' price an operating system? Besides, I think we all know that whatever 'reasonable' price they start at will just be temporary, changed the moment that most people stop complaining and become more comfortable with paying for an operating system, then they'll slowly start hiking up the prices, by small increments, of course, so as to ease people in to it.
