Microsoft Offers Refunds For Braid Error

Thanks to a technical glitch, some Xbox Live users ended up paying more for Braid then they should have. Now Microsoft is refunding the difference, plus a little bit extra.

Microsoft started their 'Deal of the Week' back in February and first up was Jonathan Blow's temporal platform-puzzler Braid; but thanks to a technical glitch some users were charged the full price of 1200 points, rather than the discounted price of 800 points.

In a message to those affected, Microsoft said, "We sincerely wish to apologize for the
technical glitch and would like to take this moment to thank you for your patience and understanding as our team worked around the clock to fix this problem."

Well, it might have taken them a few months, but Microsoft are refunding the difference to all those effected, plus an extra 100 points to give their apology a little more weight.

The refunded points should be credited to affected accounts in the 'coming weeks'.

See, I don't see why there's so much Microsoft hate. Every time I've had a problem with them (which is barely ever), they've made it up to me and more. When I had the RRoD they not only replaced my system for free, but also gave me a free month's Gold XBL membership and sorte out all my warranty issues with no problems. They also did this in about half the expected time, that they estimated themselves. And now they've done a favour to those wronged in this by giving an extra 100 points to those affected. Not much, but a nice gesture nonetheless when there's no need to. So can people stop going on about how Microsoft is the devil's own company now, please?

Yeah it's funny... more ppl would complain that there given "only" an extra 100 points ... but if they refunded just the points alone there probably wouldn't even be a story or controversy ... "give ppl an inch..."

Somehow I have 50 points left over, dunno how that happened.

Anyway, 100 points is better than nothing, though I think a full refund would have been better (this issue may affect me as that is when I bought the game).

So you haven't noticed how those extra points remain on your account and can be accumulated towards another purchase? Don't they teach arithmetic in your world?

Uh of course I noticed that, thats not the point I was making. the fact is I have to pay for 500 point when I only need 400.

If you were buying a car and the price of the car in one shop was £4000 and in a second shop it was £5000 but that includes £1000 towards your next car from that shop which would you go for? Microsoft is bilking its customers because it knows they cant shop elsewhere. This isnt Math it is Economics

Well, there's the aggressive takeovers, multiple patches, absurd pricing, forcing to pay for DLC, monopoly violations, snooping, underhand marketing techniques, utilizing the opponent's handiwork to condemn them, lying in their advertisements, poor customer service...
So can people stop going on about how Microsoft is the devil's own company now, please?

I suppose I can't disagree with most of that, except for the following. I found Microsoft pricing to be pretty fair a lot of the time, since I've basically paid a lump sum but been able to reuse the same software over and over again (I still use Microsoft Office from the old XP days on my laptop running Vista). I can't say anything about the adverts though, since I haven't seen many, but I also have used the customer service line a few times and I've never had anything but good service from them. Especially when I had the RRoD, I phoned customer service and they were much more helpful and considerate than any other helpline I've ever had to call...

Your comparison doesn't carry over into the world of Marketplace. Let's build an imaginary world where it makes sense.

You go to the one and only car shop in the universe and spend $5000 to buy a $4000 car. Eventually you are going to need another car or car accessories. True, you can't take your $1000 elsewhere but there's really no need for you to do so. Unless you really think you'll only ever spend 800 points and have 200 left over for ever and over, there's no cause to be up in arms about it. Sooner or later you'll get your money's worth. Is it a big scam by Microsoft to make us spend more? Yes! Everyone does it!
Perhaps you honestly prefer the PSN service where you have seperate microtransactions on your credit card for every little thing. I personally hate it.

What? Thats your arguement? "Eventually you will get your moneys worth" I dont want my moneys worth eventually I want it now thats why I earn my money, so that I can spend it on things I want. You cant just assume that every user will eventually have to use the extra points because its not true, plenty of people might only want the one thing,

I bought Puzzle Quest over a year ago and still have the points on my account because nothing else has appealed to me.Sure something eventually might but then I will top up another 400 or whatever and then I will still be left with some change. I dont lose any sleep over the £1 or anything but the fact is I dont feel I should have to spend more on the marketplace just to use my existing credit.

For the record I dont have anything against the PS3's microtransactions though i havent bhought anything from there yet. What I do appreciate is that they treat me like an adult in charge of my own finances and they actually give me a price in currency

Reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons with the Itchy and Scratchy dollars Also if you admit its a big scam by Microsoft then why on Earth are we arguing over it

True, but I do like they're doing something, since this makes it so the mistake hurts their wallets instead of doing nothing.

Actually, if you buy the cards in stores they come in 1600 or 4000. At least that's how it is here in America.

I dont know why everyone hates them i mean you get your 800 back plus another 100.
They try to fix everything but even if they repair for free and give something for the inconviance (gold membership) people still ***** about it i mean just give them a brake for once
