Particularly if you're Andy Chalk. The article says nothing definitive about pop-up or intrusive ads. More likely it will simply use Kinect to connect you to the xbox marketplace or involve ads placed on the marketplace, as the wording is "through games or game consoles". Where's your journalistic integrity? I see two paragraphs of angry, rabble-rousing conjecture and one paragraph of facts. This is playing out like a game of telephone.

Well there will be a way to hack this off if ms was actually stupid enough to do this.

I don't think it will be nearly as bad as you make it sound, Andy. Nevertheless, one more reason to skip the Kinect. I pay enough for games as is without dealing with interactive ads while I play.

Seriously? Wow. Raising xbox live an extra £10 a year isn't so bad, but this? Why? Are you so desperate for extra kerching that you'll ruin your own audience and consumers entertainment?

Watch the sales go down. And watch them scratch their stubbles and head in strange confusion.

Wow color me surprised. It isn't like I am already payin $60 a year to be exposed to non game related ads on the dashboard (Tim Hortons??? REALLY????). Why not infest all the peripherals as well.

Yeah I can see it now. I'd be "interacting" with them by reaching for the "close ad so I can get back to playing" button.

Honestly, I'm reminded of annotation abuse on YouTube. "THUMBS UP FOR RANDOM SHIT!" "HERE'S LINKS TO ALL MY SOCIAL MEDIA SHIT THAT YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT!" "RANDOM SHIT THAT IS DISTRACTING YOU FROM THE VIDEO!"
And much like I do with those videos that do it, I'd give such games a big fat thumbs down and go find something else to do.

First thing i thought "Good. They need more money from their customer." Second thing i thought "Why are they showing Wii Boxing in the main picture?"

Seriously. You'd think since you pay to use XBL that you would be free to such advertisements....but your not. That is all if it goes through.
No watch them announce Platinum service for 100$ and then you get no ads and get ripped off more like Gold dues lol

Super Classy, Microsoft.

I never had any desire to own a Kinect in the first place, the idea of getting ad's coughed at me by it does not make it more endearing. I can't think of an implementation of these that wouldn't be downright infuriating as a customer. Guess my 360 will continue to collect dust.

(On a side note: I know PC gaming has a bunch of mixed opinions around here, but between stupid crap like this and XBL costing money from Microsoft, Sony's recent less than stellar reputation, and Nintendo's lack of general appeal to avid gamers, I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to game on a PC right now. Yeah, the up front cost might be more, but enjoy the wonderful world of steam and buying things for half their original price.)

We really need this level of in-game advertising? Hell even the advert billboards in [Protoype] were annoying, now they have interactive adverts?

The only interaction that anybody will be doing is "raise middle finger to exit advert".

Facebook usage in developed countries is on the wane and these fuckers want to destroy their motion control appeal by making it more like Facebook? I support Kinect as a control periph because is has potenial for crazy things but if they ad support inside paid services or paid products they will not just lose this customer.
